First Lymphatic Drainage Treatment

During my post op appointment the doctor also went over next steps, and recommended three different kinds of massages I could do for recovery and to reduce swelling. The first kind of massage was home massage you do yourself at least twice a day, and she demonstrated to me how I would go about doing it. The second kind of massage was lymphatic drainage massage, which she gave me the green light to do now that it had been a week. And third was the Venus treatment that Sonobello offers and that you get complimentary as a laser lipo patient, but it's recommended you wait a month to do them because they are more intense.

For home massages I had already gotten a body massage roller, so I plan on using it in conjunction with the home massage technique she showed me. Since lymphatic drainage massages can be expensive I knew I only wanted to get it done once or twice early in the recovery process. I found a local spa that does them for a fairly decent price though, $95 to 120, and yesterday I had my first appointment with them. For the Venus treatment, I scheduled to it at the same time as my next three months post-op appointment since I don't live that close to the Westchester Sonobello.

Here I am also posting pictures of my current levels of swelling since they didn’t post in my previous post.

One Week Post Op & Recovery Progress

It's been a week and a half since my surgery. Wednesday I had my one week post op appointment at SonoBello. My doctor said I was progressing nicely and gave me the green light to start moderate workouts. She also said I could start wearing my faja 12 hours a day instead of 24 hours ago. Both these things were a surprise to me because I thought it usually took about 3 weeks before people were given the okay to take these steps.

The day of this appointment was also the day I started to notice my incisions really closing and the swelling hardening. The hardening wasn't as bad as I imagined it would be. When people mentioned the hardening effect before I imagined something more extreme, but it's more like the swelled areas are very firm. I don't know if it gets worst with time though.

At the post op appointment I was given another faja and silicon sheets to help with the scar fading process, but I have to wait about another week for the incisions to completely close before I can start using them.

My swelling has been going down little by little. Here I've posted a pic of how it's been looking the pass couple days.

Recovering, Itching, and First Look at Results

To rehash the past few days, the day of my surgery I felt increasing, but tolerable pain throughout the day until that night when I figured out I hadn’t been taking my pain meds.

The next day I barely experienced any pain at all and started to think maybe I was one of the lucky ones that would barely go through any pain. I had often heard from others who got laser lipo that the surgery itself usually isn’t that bad, but that the real pain comes afterwards during day 2-3. It was my second day and I barely felt any pain whatsoever, so was I going to be lucky and continue to feel better the next day? Or was the real pain going to come for me?

Well even though the pain never came the next day was the most miserable. I woke up this day itchy, and I was itchy the. entire. day. I wouldn’t say the itching was unbearable, it was like a medium amount, but the thing is that it’s constant and unending. It doesn’t subside. Its very uncomfortable and annoying. When reviewing other girls’ experiences I was so focused on pain that I didn’t pay as much mine when they talked about the itchiness that comes when your incisions start feeling. I underestimated it. I think I’d prefer the feeling of pains and aches over itchiness.

Since I woke up early that morning itchy I decided to take a shower to try to help relieve it. I had changed my pads before, so this was the first day I completely took off my faja and showered. It was also my first time really getting a look at myself. I was pleased to find that I had no bruising (at least not yet) and I could already tell that I was smaller than I was before despite the swelling, especially on the sides where my love handles used to be. It seems like the places that I leaked most are the places where the swelling went down the most. My upper and lower abdominal barely leaked.

After the shower, which gave me temporary relief, I put on fresh pads on the incisions points even though it didn’t seem I was bleeding anymore, and put on my faja. Throughout the day, with trial an error I came to realize it wasn’t only the healing incisions that were itchy, but the pads and tape under the faja that were making me itchy. When my faja and everything was off my body could breath.

The next day, which is today, the itchiness subsided. And besides natural recovery, this is party because I stopped using pads and tape—I haven’t been bleeding and they were just causing me to itch. Instead I’ve just been using the lipo foam pads I got. They’re cushiony and smooth so they’re less itch inducing. When I try adding pads again the itchiness returns.
