Non-Hairy Becker's Nevus Treatment 8-17-19

Based on my visits to dermatologists, medspas and research on the Internet there is no cure for Becker's nevus. It is a very stubborn hyperpigmentation that is lodged deep in the skin. The actor, Richard Gere, has the hairy type Becker's nevus on the back of his shoulder. You can see his nevus from the film, "An Officer and a Gentleman."

I tried many treatments for my Becker's nevus including ruby laser, alexandrite laser, Q-switched laser, fractional laser, ND:yag laser, hydroquinone bleaching cream, etc. but to no avail. This Becker's nevus appeared on the back of leg when I was a teenager trying out sunbathing and that was only about 45 minutes in the sun. After that sun exposure, the nevus appeared. Before that event, I had no birth mark there. From that moment, I had been very apprehensive of going out in the sun without sunscreen lotion.

On 8-17-19, Johanny is trying out picoway laser on my leg. That latest and greatest laser equipment cost her $300k. Not cheap, even many dermatology offices do not have it. It uses acoustic technology to shatter the pigmentation, theoretically anyway. Some doctors commented that picoway does not work on Becker's Nevus, but we'll see how it goes. Wish me luck.

Cost of Treatments

The $1.5k was for 36 treatments of small areas and 3 pixel skin resurfacing of the nose. Initially the 36 treatments was 12 treatments for nose, 12 treatments for eyebrows and 12 treatments for fingers. Later after a year or so, I decided that I want all the remaining treatments for the nose and Jhoanny allowed it and I thought she was kind for that.

Latest Technology to Remove Unwanted and Unsightly Hair.

I've been visiting the Manhattan Skin and Laser Center for several years now. It's in a convenient location in NYC, only about a block away from the Apple store on Fifth Avenue.
Jhoanny Pena and Gloria Cordero are great laser technicians and they always zap very thoroughly the areas where I want hair removed. Some areas are embarrassing to treat such as nose and arm pits but they are very easy-going and zap them in a professional and medical manner.

Also, I had pixel skin resurfacing on my nose because of the grotesque bumpiness. I think that was due to acne scarring when I was a teenager going through puberty. I had 3 rounds of treatment and I think they helped improve the appearance somewhat. There was some downtime, the nose would have a purplish-reddish look and then skin would slough off. It took about 5 or so days to recover. The treatments were minimal risk unlike going to surgery to cut out the bumps which would just leave nasty looking scars instead.

Jhoanny, the founder, is a medical technology junkie. For instance, she already had the Cynosure Elite laser for hair removal and that one is fine for what it does. Yet, she went out of her way to purchase the Candela laser equipment, which cost $100k, and it performs the same function as the Cynosure, perhaps a little better. She told me it was her dream machine.

Recently, I went back for hair removal and Jhoanny said she will purchase a pico technology equipment and it cost about $300k! It's the latest skin care technology and it can be used to acoustically remove hyperpigmentation such as sun damaged skin, birth marks and tattoos and smooth out the skin.

I think this dermatology center is fine. The prices are a little higher than comparable places, but certainly less than a plastic surgeon's office or doctor's office.
