I had 360 cc smooth saline implants under the muscle for 15 years. I am 5ft 8" tall, and at the age of 23 thought I needed to have at least a C cup to match my curvy figure. Also, I lived in Los Angeles, where all of my friends were getting bigger breasts and it seemed pretty simple. I hated the feeling of having implants in my body the minute I woke up from surgery. I lost a lot of feeling in one of my breasts and nipples, and it changed my sex life for the worse. Even though I liked the way I filled out clothes and bras, I was always aware of these foreign objects in my body, and sleeping on my stomach or having a massage became very uncomfortable.
After 10 years of having implants I began having health issues. My thyroid was low, my adrenals were fatigued, I had random aches and pains in my joints, stomach issues, 24 hour a day headaches and dizziness, and the list goes on. I spent 5 years trying to figure out this could be happening. I eat very healthy, exercise, and take very good care of myself. About a year ago, I started reading articles about breast implants causing these sorts of health problems, and that was it for me. I was having pain in my left breast and was due to either have my implants replaced, or I could remove them and be done with it. I chose to remove my implants with no lift, and my doctor performed a full capsulectomy and also did a revision on my right areola scar. My surgery went well with no complications and I could not be happier! Everyone comments to me that I look like I lost 10 pounds, and I look much more athletic. I feel so much lighter, and it was great shopping for small tops instead of large! I feel much healthier, and half of my symptoms have disappeared. I think in time, all of my symptoms will be gone.

Almost four months implant free!
tiff55October 20, 2013
I am at almost 4 months now since my surgery, and I am adding new pics of my progress so far. I will never regret having my implants removed and am seeing new improvements every week! I know at this point I will not be getting a lift, and I feel like my breasts have really filled in the last few months. Having my implants removed was the best health decision I could of made for myself :)

I think they look great, like the previous commenter I think they make you look more youthful.

Tiff, you look amazing! I definitely don't think you need a lift at all. You mentioned that most of your prior health issues had resolved....4 months later where are you at with that? Have you seen any more improvement in your health since explant? I'm getting mine out in a couple of weeks and hoping that things will get better health wise. Doctors have been very discouraging in that regard....saying that explanting will not help my autoimmune issues. I just have to stay positive. Regardless, I know i'm doing the right things by getting these things taken out.

Fixit225, I think that doctors will always say that it wont help to have your implants removed. Since having mine removed, the best thing I have noticed is I sleep like a baby! I have had insomnia for the last 15 years, where I would fall to sleep fine, but wake up at 2 am and never really fall asleep again. I never related that to my implants but I guess it was! My hands and feet don't ache any more. I haven't had my thyroid or adrenals tested since explant, but I feel they are functioning better due to the fact that I have lost weight easily since surgery, my energy is up, and I don't feel heart palpitations any longer. I still am dealing with dizziness and some tension headaches. I am pretty sure at this point that these are allergy related (which could still be implant related), because these symptoms get worse with seasonal changes. I am really feeling much better since having surgery though, and I think will just have more improvement as time goes on :)

By the way, good luck with your upcoming surgery and definitely stay positive! I am sure you will see improvement after. :)

This is encouraging. I was suppose to have my adrenals retested this month....but I am going to wait post explant to get all that checked again. My thyroid appeared fine at last check, but I have all the symptoms of thyroid problems. I also have sleep and heart palpitation issues so it would be great to get relief of some of these things. Thanks for your reply.

Thanks for your story. I had mine out three weeks ago and doing great. have had pain in my left one still but doctor said I'm ok. I too have had thyroid problems and heart palpitations. hoping having these removed will help in those areas. The doctors deffinitely will not tell you the implants cause anything, but mine were in so long (23 years) that I am convinced they were affecting my health. I'm so glad to have them out. You give me hope. You look amazing!

Thank you so much meg1970! I am happy to hear you are doing well at three weeks post. I hope your thyroid issues and palpitations get better. I need to have my thyroid re tested soon, but I already can tell it is functioning better from the improvements I feel. From what I have read, it is not a matter of IF implants will cause health issues, it is a matter of WHEN. I don't believe the docs who say they don't cause problems at all. Happy healing :)

You are going to feel even better as time goes by! Mine don't look nearly as perfect, but I was so ill, that I don't care. They were ruptured and I had them in for nearly 20 years. When you feel amazing, you will shine! I wish you all the best~

Natural is so much better. I happen to like small breasts because I have natural big breasts (DD). I have always but them but too old now to worry about it.

hola! Yo hace cuatro meses me explante. Me diagnosticaron fibromialgia a los años de operarme. Todavia no estoy bien, pero tengo fe de que puedo mejorar. Tu cirujano te dijo que se puede tardar un año en mejorar. Te felicito han que dado muy bien!

oh my gosh! All these stories give me so much hope! I feel like an elderly lady, I live on a heating pad, sick all the time and crochet now because it's about all I can do! I can't wait to do yoga again! YOU look great and very similar to my very small "pre implant " boobs and if I do say so myself, they look even better now so maybe "some " stretching and natural growth with age makes the breasts look pretty good after explanting. I was wanting to take them out years and years ago and was given the horror story of deflated sacks on my breast and advised just to replace.

i hope and pray to have nearly as good as an outcome! I was quite small with quite large implants (450 cc I believe)
