$9,000
After 20 years of really large breasts (size I) I am finally getting a reduction/ lift on June 20th. My husband is in the Army and we are stationed in Germany. Tricare Insurance was VERY easy to deal with. I've dealt with pain issues forever, but I never had anything documented. I just went to the doctor because I had a rash that I couldn't get a handle on, and he put me in for the consult. Tricare sent me to a German PS who sent the info to Tricare. I was literally approved within one hour of the PS sending in my paperwork.

I do have some anxiety about the procedure. I will be having my surgery by a German doctor in a German hospital. Germans don't do outpatient BR so my hospital stay will be between 2 to 4 days. I can go home once the drain tubes come out. The more important issue for me is that Germans are not big on narcotic pain meds. My PS said I'll get Tylenol after the surgery. YIKES!!!! Luckily, my normal Dr. on post will give me pain meds before the surgery, because they know that the German doctors won't prescribe it.

I've read where some people can been prescribed meds to help with sleeping and muscle relaxers. Is that common? Should I ask my Dr. for a prescription of those as well? The only two surgeries I have had (tummy tuck and c section) both resulted in necrosis and wound vacs....so I'm hoping to not have any issues with that.

Am I alone here in Germany, or is anyone else here?
Loving all of the info:) Thanks!

Hi :-). Will there be anyone to help you for the first 3-4 days ? You will need that . I am almost 8 weeks postop and my Dr here in California insisted that someone be with me . I am sure you're used to being independent being a wife of a soldier:-) . (Please thank your husband for his service and sacrifice ... I'm the proud mom of a son who served in Iraq and Afghanistan) Because you will be taking pain meds you will need help moving around (you might have dizziness or weakness ) As far as sleeping aides ,I took a Valium the night before to rest before surgery . The muscle relaxers are to help your lower back which may start to hurt because for a few weeks you have to sleep in a somewhat reclined position. Which isn't a problem if you are a back sleeper . But if you're not , you might start to have back aches .,I slept like that for 3 weeks . I hope this helps answer a couple of questions . Best of luck with your surgery and I hope all goes well.
Hi I'm going to Dr jost too. Is there anything that concerns you about your treatment? Please rate him as I have surgery with him for a tummy tuck. Thanks! I ve had two c-sections and hope this is the lady surgery ever. Please let me know as I'm a bit nervous. ...
Hello! Going in for my consult on the 15th, I hope it's as easy as yours. I wear an E, I'm also about 5 lbs over weight, but my doctor didn't seem too concerned. So, hopefully I'm approved without much of a problem!
Well...I am very late to this post but I can assure anyone who has surgery with Dr. Jost, that you will LOVE your results as he and his wife are a great, experienced team and I had the best care and absolutely fantastic results from my breast reduction surgery...I show other plastic surgeons in America, my results and they are amazed and want to know his techniques.
I have to disagree with the poster above. I would have spent far less and likely gotten better results with a doctor in Miami or LA. I had to have surgery twice, and several mini-revisions in between. Those were actually more painful than the major surgeries. I had a one-sided breast lift that resulted in the nipple practically crawling out of my top, going from too low to way too high. When that was somewhat corrected (as it's still much higher than it should be), I went from having larger areola (which I loved) to 2 areola of completely different sizes. The last time we spoke I was advised to tattoo it back on. After all that time, money, and pain...tattoo my areola back on. I am a science project. To say that I get angry when I think about it, doesn't fully explain how I feel. I ask myself: there were 2 plastic surgeons in the room at the same time....did they both agree the work looks good? Do they not actually know what good work looks like? I just can't understand how one areola ended up being half the size of the other. Anyway, if you are paying out of pocket, do yourself a favor and see surgeons that appreciate the art along with the science. I have no doubt they are competent doctors. I never thought I'd be seriously injured or contract some crazy infection. But I don't think they have a strong sense of what actually LOOKS good. Maybe it's a regional thing. I can't help but think a doctor in a larger city that deals with women in certain industries would understand that better.
