I've been putting off getting Invisalign for years...

$4,500
I've been putting off getting Invisalign for years. I dont know why. Probably monetary issues. I didn;t realize that there are offices that actually finance through them. So I put down $2000 and am doing payments. Awesome.

I could not wait to get my trays in. It took 2 weeks from the date I did my molds. I went in and they put the buttons on my teeth. One thing I noticed ASAP was that I had a button on front tooth. In fact, there were two. I was not happy about that seeing I am a single 28 year old girl who is dating. Because I have half a fake tooth on that front tooth (I broke when I was 10) it wasn;t sticking to thier standards so they had to redo it three times! I did not like that. Otherwise it ws a seemingly easy process. They put it on it it instantly just felt weird, tight and like peanut butter stuck to your teeth. I didnt mind it, in afct I was excited to see results.

The second I had it on and finally was able to look in the mirror, I was sad. I didnt love the way it looks. It DOES look different. What made me feel better was that no one else noticed but me.

Obviously it is uncomfortable but the pain really set in 2 hours later. Throbbing, dull pain. Like pressing on a bruise. The my tongue started to get scrateched underneath from rubbing on the lower inside retainer. I took motrin and it did not help. I was at work too, so it wasnt good. id suggest taking the day off. I wanted to remove it so many times but wore it for a total of 23 hours that day. My suggest wear was 22 hours/day.

On day two I woke up and it wasnt AS bad. I thoguht day two might be worse, like when you work out and the next day yourmuscles hurt worse than after your workout. So, I was pleasantly surprised. They are still extremley sore though.

The Invisalign Diet IS a real thing. Not only bc it just sucks to take off retainers, bc they hurt so bad, but be your teeth are so sore! I literally could not bite into anythign even if I tried. I feel like my teeth are weak and they just hurt WAY too much. So I have a feeling I will be losing weight. Even though I barley have any to lose. I do not even have an apetite bc I am too focused on pain from teeth. I have a feeling Ill be living on smoothies, mashed potatoes and soup!! LOL.

I can already see a difference when retainer is in. I can see that it forces gap closed a little bit. Mine wasnt big to begin with though. But Im really excited. My ortho kept saying, day 1-3 will be tough but just through it! And I am. I cant wait for more results!

I just started on 2/18/15 . I am having the same problem with my tongue being scratched. Have you taken your aligners out when you drank anything besides water? I'm still debating I have read so many diff responses on that.

OMG the tongue is the WORST. Mine is so swollen today. Day 3 for me. And my trays feel looser. I do take them out when I drink other things BUT last night (and its rare for me) I went out for a bday party to a bar/restaurant and drank sprite/vodka through a straw, rt to back of teeth. Then we did a shot. I went to bathroom afterwards and rinsed with water. And I imm drank water after everything. Its REALLLLLY inconvienent but i figured bc it was clear soda, i was ok. But then, rinse. A lot of people saying "kiss your love life goodbye". The guy Im dating cant tell at all! We kiss fine! LOL. But now my tongue is 3xs as it was 3 days ago before i started. Ugh!

I can imagine what the "Invisalign diet" would look like. I am planning on getting my Invisalign trays next month, I just had a Frenectony done 2/17/2015 and I haven't eaten real food since then. I also do not have any weight to lose and I'm extremely hungry right now. Was told not to eat something spicy but I can't eat anything at all because I cannot seem to swallow a thing without thrusting or touching the spot with my tongue. I probably should have left myself the way I was. Lol. I'm 28 too but married with kids. My husband loves good set of teeth (reason I'm going through this now grrrrrrrh!).

Awww! Yeah Ive been wanting this for 10 years! I should upload pics! I did not need one of those! So sorry you had to go through that. LOL at you have nothing to lose--but you will! I should start weighing myself. It honestly is just too inconvient to take them out. Im not even that lazy! It just hurts to take in and out and get use to them. Plus, you just cant bite into anything, it feels like your teeth are broken, weak and brittle! Done and two is horrible, just bear with it. Im on day 3 and although my tongue is swollen, I am not in so much pain and my trays feel a lil looser. Its nice.

Day Three.

leahnicole086
I am on day 3 but only at 48 hours.

I hate my lisp. It is annoying but it is getting better. One exception. My tongue is so swollen. its prob 2-3xs the size it was 3 days ago before I started. My teeth feel fine in the trays. There is discomfort and pain but its better and more manageable in the trays. When I take them out, it hurts. It feels like I have broken, brittle and weak teeth. I could not bite into an apple, for instance, I would probably cry. My bottom tray, on the inside of mouth, is what is causing my tongie to hurt, get ulcers on it and get swollen. The ridge is rough and when I talk my tongue rubs aginst it.

I reallly havent eaten much at all. Day One: Water (all day) and soud. Day two: Soup, mashed potatoes and a banana. Then I went out for a bday party at a bar, had a few alcoholic clear drinks w invisaalign in. I drank from a straw so it went in back of mouth. I think they fear is will discolor so I went w colorless drink. I was fine. I drank and swished water in between.

I was also writing back in comments that I seen ppl write kiss your love life goodbye. Then get yourself a better man bc that is not the case at all. The guy Im dating doesnt even notice, it doesnt bother him or I and in fact, I am NOT thinking about invisalign when I am kissing him. LOL

I also have been clenching my jaw. Have you been doing this? Just hard getting use to the plastic in my mouth I guess.

Also, at first I was obsessed with 'suck the air' out of retainer, which, in turn, made my tongue hurt and thats prob the reason why it is so swollen. I havent done that at all today though, no urge. LOL.

I would suggest filing down the rough edge of your tray or getting some wax to rub on it (I've heard that can be messy). I filed mine and found that it helpeda lot. I also had the clenching problem. It seems to be worst the first few days of a new tray. I've found that if I concentrate on not clenching, it gets better naturally. I also had a real problem with the lisp. It is now 6 weeks in and is just now almost gone. Hang in there, and it will get better. Again like you, I sucked on my retainers really bad when I first got them, lol. I've found that once you've had the tray in a few days, it gets better. Thanks for sharing and I hope this helps somehow.

Great, I'm so happy to know Im normal! (Or are we? ) LOL. That def helps me, I'm really concentrating on pronounciationand not clenching jaw. I'm not sucking air anymore. And been using numbing stuff on my tongue, i will try to file these down bc is painful. And it feels like they are looser now, so the bottom tray seems to come out slighter on edge near tongue,so i keep scratching. Ugh!

Week One Done.

leahnicole086
I am officially done with week one. I wanted to write abotu the thinsg I noticed.

The invisalign diet is still active! I have noticably lost weight and my jeans are to big.. I must partially blame it on having MONO though this past week. But, either way, I hate taking out the trays to eat. it is such a process. Then you have to brush, clean tray, and put 'em back in. I'm not lazy by any means and I always carried a toothbrush regardless but itsa mixture of that and my teeth hurting. But MUCH lESS than the first 3 days which were almost unbearbale.

My trays are looser too. And I do not notice them much. Except for the lisp. I am going to call orthodontist today to see if I can switch tray today before the week begins and I have work Monday. I'll have to update what happens. But I think I am definitly ready to switch trays.
