Follow up with Dr. Tanovic 1/10/2017
WORTH IT
Today was my follow up with Dr. Tanovic, she said that she likes the way I'm healing. One drain came out today. However, she had to stitch it because the wound is still open a little. The other drain on my left side, she left in because she says it's draining a little more than she'd like it to be. Also, my left leg was extremely swollen. She had to drain 30CC's of fluid from my leg. After she did that, my leg felt so much better. She wants to see me every 2 days however it's difficult because most of my friends work and my Mom doesn't drive????. She said if the left leg continues to drain the way it is, I'm going to have to get a portable wound vac. Which is supposed to make the healing process much faster. I'm trying to find a ride back to her office on Thursday. I'll keep you guys posted. No new pics at this time.

The pillow purchased to sit on for comfort
Even though I'm not able to sit on this pillow just yet, this is a pillow that my sister purchased. It isn't comfortable for me just yet. I have absolutely no cushion in my booty. It's actually concave in some areas right now. Which is fine by me. As long as that poison is out of my body.

I hear that! Amen! I have a similar pillow, not as puffy. I need one of these. Thanks for sharing darling. May the Lord continue to help you heal! I'm still waiting to go in.. almost 8! Pray for me. :)
Absolutely praying for you sweetie! You're in Great hands! Yes I'm sure once I'm able to utilize this pillow, it'll be super comfy! Once you get back to your room after surgery, try to get some rest my dear. Blessings to you throughout this ordeal. I'm here if ever you need a listening ear.
I feel for you after the journey you've had. I can only imagine how had it must have been for you. But I can now see you are on the road of recovering!! I wish you great healing.
Thank you so much Esther41! The road to recovery feels like a long one, however, I'm ready to stay the course.
Hi. Wow, I'm s
Hey how's everything going for you?
Hey jazmin7990, things are coming along. For me, it seems to be taking forever but day by I keep telling myself. I have my follow up with the doctor today so we'll see what she says.
Hope is all well and they took out most of it.
Thank you so much for sharing your story. How are you doing now almost 6 weeks after your last surgery? Do you have any updates or recent pics? Happy Healing GnG
Thank you for taking the time to read it. I'm feeling PHENOMENAL at 6 weeks post-op. I'm finally back home and back to work. I'm not ready to share my recent pics yet. I will, just not yet. I've gained 20 pounds which I'll definitely need for reconstructive surgery. My follow up with my doctor is in May do hopefully we can discuss reconstruction then.
Avia I'm so happy for u!!
Thank you sweetie!!

1/3/2017 almost home!!
Finally had last procedure for removal and complete closure today. Dr. Tanovic wanted to make sure that there was no more tissue to remove. She went in, removed whatever tissue came to the surface from the wound vacs, completely closed the wounds, applied some type of disolvable tissue tape, some sticky pads for cushion, a pressure bandage around my hips, and put in drains. I'm so happy the wound vacs are gone! She said she was pleased that I was barely draining anymore so she felt comfortable putting the drains in at this point. I'm thoroughly grateful that she had an entire team evaluate me before any surgeries because of my medical history. She had me see a hematologist, gastroenterologist, and a rheumatologist and made sure that they all cleared me for surgery before she began. I was admitted in the 7th of December, however, my 1st surgery wasn't until the 12th.

Glad to know everything went well. Big hug
Thank you Newvenus. Still a long road to go.
I'm have been at it for 7 months now. Having a fourth surgery soon. To prevent seromas, my doctor is going to leave the incision open. I'm a little nervous about that but it is what it is. Just focus on the end result: no more poison. Cosmetically.., well, you'll get there eventually. What matters now is that you are on your way to recovery. Hang on. Xo
Wow!! That's a long time! Yes, I'm definitely looking toward the finish line!! All I can do now though is take it day by day. I'm in so much pain but I don't want to take any pain meds because it causes constipation and that's the absolute worse. I'm keeping hope alive.
Hi Newvenus! It's great that you are such an inspiration to the girls on RS! Great to know your healing is coming along nicely! Yes it is a loooong road to recovery and we are on our way! Can't wait to be rid of these puppy dog ears lol! Take care and God bless
Congratulations!!!
Thank you Thundercat!
So great to hear you're well on your well to a speedy recovery for the new year! I'm glad you found a dr that took great care of you. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. Xx
Thank you so much AJolie. Still quite a ways to go but I'm glad that the poison is gone! I'm glad to have found a Dr to take on this task as well. It was MAJOR!!!! Thank you sweetie for your continued thoughts and prayers.
Hey girly, God bless you! Sorry I missed you! This procedure sure is tough! I go in for 2nd round at 8pm.. were u able to sit down in car when you got discharged? I'm thinking of that 4 hour drive back home
Hey hunny!! I had purchased one of those baby pillows that looks a crescent that I used on the car ride home. The doctor said that I'm unable to sit on my butt for at least a week. However, laying on my back seems to be the second most comfortable. I'm actually a stomach sleeper but for some reason I'm not able to be on my stomach for long periods of time because my arms keep going numb. Yeah, I'm trying to decide my mode of transportation back home once I'm discharged from Dr. Tanovic's care until reconstruction as well. I currently reside in ATL however I'm in NJ with family currently. I'm thinking of flying back because it's the fastest mode of transportation. However, I'm looking for the most comfortable.
I'll post a picture of the pillow I purchased.
Ah I see, I'm going in soon, counting the minutes. I'm a side sleeper, I've been on my back most of the time, I agree, it's the most comfy. I position two pillows in a T form, it alleviates some pressure. I'm so proud of you! *hugs* in a few months we will go back to normal
Thanks
Hey Avia..I too am in Atl...was the flight high? Are there recovery houses avail?? I'm hoping I don't have to stay long. But how are you doing so far?
Hey hunny, I have family in NJ, so that's where I am until the doctor allows me to travel back. I Didn't do any research on recovery houses because I knew where I was going to stay after surgery. Sorry I don't have that information avail. I plan on being in NJ for at least another week or two. I've been looking for flights for the past week 1 way going to ATL and I've found flights for as low as $69 leaving from La Guardia airport in NY. I hope you won't have to stay long either. I'm getting cabin fever and I just want to go back home. So far I'm doing pretty well. My drains keep leaking a little at the site where they're sutured at the skin but nothing major. Not able to do much which is frustrating but I understand my limitations. One day at a time.
What do they say u can take for the constipation? Because I don't want to feel too much pain but def don't want pain in that area either for sure
While in the hospital the nurse advised to drink warm prune juice, drink plenty of water, ask the nurses for milk of magnesia. While I'm home, I drink the prune juice, water, and I take a magnesium supplement that helps me stay regular and my stool soft. I know they give you Colace, the stool softener, in the hospital, it just didn't work for me.
I'm honored to have met you in person! Every time I meet someone else from this board, I really feel like my Higher Power is working in my life.
Amen hunny!!! It was such a pleasure to meet you as well. To put a face to the name and to actually see where you are in your journey is awesome!! You have such a beautiful Spirit, may God continue to bless you throughout this journey.
Same to you!! Xoxoxo
Please keep in touch
Thank you hunny! I certainly will.
