I am very pleased with this surgery, which was not for appearance but for a medical condition. My case was somewhat unusual. I had droopy eyelids that were impairing my field of vision. But in addition, I have partial facial paralysis on the right side, due to a skull fracture and facial nerve damage when I was 20, and my right eyelid was much more droopy than my left. About 10 years ago I started having trouble keeping my eyes open and was diagnosed with Blepharospasm. Subjectively it seemed I was very sensitive to glare and light hurt, but also I wondered if the unequal opening of my two eyes could be a factor, since to me it felt like I kept trying to close my left eye to match how closed the right eye was. I wanted to have more done on the right eyelid to try to equalize how open the two eyes were. At the same time, because of the partial paralysis, there was a danger that if too much were done on the right, I might not be able to fully close my right eye. So this surgery was a bit tricky.
I am very pleased with the outcome. It has not fully fixed the Blepharospasm but it has helped. It is enabling me to open both eyes more fully and that helps the glare. I also have better field of vision. And I can still close my right eye. I felt the surgery and post-operative care was handled very well, my communication with Dr. Richards was excellent, there were no negative effects, and I would recommend him highly to anyone needing this kind of surgery. I am reviewing the surgery almost a year after doing it, because I wanted to give plenty of time to see the effects, and again, I am very pleased.
