I will be 45 in January and I'm 5' 5" and 265 lbs. I will have my first consultation 1/8/2015. I do not have insurance so I'm paying out of pocket for this. I'm really nervous and need advice on what questions I need to ask. I want to have this surgery so bad, but I want to make sure that I am doing the right thing and that I will be taking care of just the same as someone with insurance.

I paid myself and I'd pay double to achieve what I have in just eight weeks. R,EAD as many reviews on here as you can and the forum posts, they share so much, we may not be surgeons but we have expertise about what works post op. If healthy, happy and slim is your goal, this is the tool that really works. Everything changes and it's like the removed part of my stomach and put in a YOU ARE FULL switch. It's just the best thing I have every done just for me. No regrets at all here!

Thank you Zen Lady. I'm excited to start this life changing process. I know it's going to be a big change in my life. I'm sure it will be the biggest change I've ever done. What did they make you do before you surgery and how long after you consultation was your surgery scheduled? How was you recovery?

I could have the op as soon as I wanted, I just had to fit it into my busy life (self pay easier for that). I was to do a 2 x protein shakes and low carb, no fat, grilled/steamed protein and grilled green veg evenings fir the two weeks pre op, but every Dr does it their way. Brilliant recovery, up in 5 hours slow walking, no pain meds needed after op day, sipping always, back at office work in 5 days which was a little early, but really so much easier than expected.

That make me feel at ease a little more. Thanks.

Hi Sidny, I had my surgery 9 months ago and it went fine. I've lost 81 lbs so far. I have 20 more lbs to go to hit my second goal. My first goal was to just get under 200 lbs. Now I am weighting 181. The doctor said my ideal weight should be 160 but if I'm not happy with that I'm going to try for 145. We will see.

Congrats on taking a step towards a new you! I did the surgery in September and turned 45 in October. I was also a self pay so I decided to do medical tourism in Mexico to save money and to bypass all of the psychological hoops. Before I went, I went to see an endocrinologist to make sure my blood work was normal. I also made sure to ask about what foods would work best for me in the first couple of weeks after surgery. You can answer most questions by reading through bariatricpal.com. Its a great forum of sleevers, banders and bypassers who give a wealth of knowledge and experience. As your doctor what the average recovery time, common complications and what to look for, pre/post ops diet restrictions and whether he/she has had any issues with any patients and what caused it. Good Luck!

Thank you. I'm ready to do this and start a new me. There is so much stuff I want to do in life. Like the simple task of crossing my legs, sitting in the floor and so on.

Getting closer to my consultation! January 8th!

nickijs
Well, it's getting closer and I'm excited! We will see how excited I am after the consultation. As of right now I have an appointment with my OB GYN on Jan. 6th because I found out that I have a large cyst on my ovary. I hope that they say that it won't interfere with the procedure for my sleeve. Has anyone else had anything happen to them like this and they continued on with the surgery?

I hope it doesn't, but taking care of that is more important that a delay in your sleeve. Isn't it lucky the tests found it to sort out now. Your sleeve turn will come!

Yes, I prayed to the Lord that if there was anything that needed to be done to show me. Well, if you ask you shall receive. I feel in my heart that everything will be alright and that things will go as scheduled.
