I am 65 yrs old, and inherited my dad's eyes. I have always wished I had more open upper eyelids, and had been thinking of surgery since I was in my 40s. But now that I am retired and have more time for such things, I decided to go for it. I decided to do lower and upper. I was put to sleep, as my doctor said he routinely uses general anesthesia if lower lids are involved. I had no pain, and felt like I healed quickly. The main discomfort was watery eyes. I iced my eyelids every 15-20 minutes (15 min on, 15 min off) for first week, and slept with my head elevated for about 2 weeks. Upper stitches were removed after 1 week, and lower stitches dissolved on their own. I feel it opened up my eyes, and made me look rested and hopefully younger. I would definitely do it again.

I love your daily pictures!  Thanks so much for sharing.  I think you look fantastic in your day 8 pic.  Do you have any recent pics since the surgery was a few months ago?  What is that piece of tape on your forehead for?

Thanks Jill81. The tape on my forehead was to hold the ends of the sutures. One long continuous thread was used on each upper lid, and the ends were taped on the forehead, and on each temple. As I understand it, this was the preferred method by my doctor, and it seemed to work well. I have added a few more pictures that include some more recent. Also, I realized my Day 8 was the wrong picture (the original was actually about 3 weeks post surgery), so I have posted a new Day 8.

That makes sense about the tape.  Thanks for posting more pics!  I think you look fabulous, congrats.

Was that the total cost and what type of anesthesia did you have? Any initial infections or dry eye. You result is excellent!

Thanks grace60. That was the total cost including the general anesthesia. No infections or dry eye. Watering eyes (left was worse than right) was the main side effect for me, but I understand that is normal. It has subsided over several months, so now I rarely notice any watering except perhaps when I am out in the wind.

Did you have a skin pinch on the bottoms? I have seen two different doctors and one says he would take a little skin after he took fat from inside the lids and the other said it was not necessary. A little afraid of scars on the lower lids.

I do not remember hearing the term 'skin pinch.' However, I believe a little bit of skin was trimmed from the lower lids. I do not have any noticeable scars on the lower lids.

I assume a skin pinch is just that - trimming skin from the lower lids. Good to know it does not leave noticeable scars. Thanks for your answer. You look great!
