Left with Scar After Aggressive Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasions come across as being safe but when the person performing this procedure is inept it can ruin your skin. I was having issues with acne and went to the medi spa associated with the dermatology practice I was going too. I had microdermabrasions before so we decided that would be the best route and I was too scared to get a chemical peel. Well it initially did help and along with the topical prescriptions my face started to clear up. I decided I would get a facial instead of the microdermabrasion and the next few days after that my skin was like sandpaper. A small underground pimple also showed up and lasted two months before I popped it. I was left with a small pock mark on apple of my cheek. In March of 2017, I went in for another microdermabrasion, Kelly was obsessed with smoothing out that pock mark. I told her it didn’t really bother me, but she just kept talking over me. She started the procedure right there on my scar, aggressively pulling my skin with the microdermabrasion wand and then going over it multiple times. I knew then in my gut I should have told her to stop. Then after the microdermabrasion was done she did extractions and fooled with that spot even more. Afterwards, she proudly claimed that she had made it smoother. When I looked in the mirror the pock mark looked larger. Less than a week after that microdermabrasion I noticed a circle forming in that spot with the pock mark in the middle. A circle that looked to me to be about the size of the microdermabrasion wand. It continued to get worse, it looked like that area had been suctioned and all my pores inside the circle were huge. It also looks thicker than the rest of my skin. I was freaking out and got into my PA that week who said “it’s just your skin and keep using your topicals.” Well a week later it was still there so I went to see Kelly who of course didn’t take any responsibility for it and blamed it on me, telling me I pick at my skin and that I should have alternated peels with the microdermabrasions. Which that hadn’t been what she had told me before, she had been telling me that the microdermabrasions were why my skin had cleared up and that my skin responded well to them. Anyway, I’ve been to a different dermatologist and a plastic surgeon who both said this spot is a result of that microdermabrasion. I’ve had 3 fraxel treatments in that spot which helped a little but not as much as I would have liked. It’s now been almost 15 months since it happened and it’s still there. I never in a million years would have thought this would happen and I cannot find anywhere else on the internet that it has happened. Most other people’s bad experiences have to do with bruising and hyperpigmentation, where mine is a scar it’s a different texture and it’s a circle. I wish to God I had never gone to that place, I have lost all self confidence. And the sad thing is that place and Kelly don’t even care about what they have done.
