I've had puberty induced gynecomastia since I was 12. I am now 25. I have tried everything to get rid of it naturally but nothing worked. The leaner I got the more it would show up, I basically had a 6 pack with 2 small lumps on my chest and puffy nipples. The puffy nipples were the worst especially with light tshirts. Living with Gynocomastia I became a master at hiding it, my whole wardrobe was based on masking it. It's definitely been a depressing expericance living with it. Putting it lightly gynocomstia is a real life curse. I would dread summer time becuase I knew I would be turning down a lot invites to the lake or pool, sitting at home wishing I could take off my shirt and enjoy the weather with all my friends. I would wake up everyday, look in the mirror with total discuss. Self shaming thoughts took over until I would eventually snap out of it and realize I have a full day ahead of me.
Fast forward 13 years to 2016 I have research the top board certified surgeons in the nation who specialize in gynecomastia surgery. After talking to a handful surgeons, reading reviews, watching YouTube videos and reviewing hundreds of before and after photos, I knew for a fact who I wanted to do my surgery , Dr. David Pratt in Kirkland Washington. After hours of research I felt confident and finally set up the consultation. I sent an email via his website with my contact information attached. The next day I got a call from one of Dr. Pratts nurses to set up the consultation. We scheduled it on my day off the following week. When I came to my consultation I was greeted by 3 of Dr. Pratts nurses. They made me feel very welcomed. I filled out all the patient forms then I was brought to the consultation room where the nurse answered any further questions I had regarding the surgery. Shortly after, Dr. Pratt came into the room, traduced himself to my wife and I then he had me take off my shirt to examine my chest. He went over his game plan on and explained everything that needed to be done to fix the problem . Dr. Pratt reassured me that he has a lot of experience with gynecomastia surgery and that he does at least one a week. He gave me an estimate on how much the procedure would cost and how long the surgery would take. After leaving his office I was even more confident in the choice to go with Dr. Pratt. To my convenience I was able to do the blood work the same day, review payment option and set up the date of my appointment. I wanted to have my surgery as soon as possible. I was thrilled that they were able to schedule my surgery for the following week! They gave me a packet with the copies of the papers I signed and instructions of pre and post operative directions.
The day of surgery, I was taken to the operating area and given a locker to keep my belongings. I change into the robe, compression socks, traction socks, and cap. His nurses made sure I was very comfortable with a nice toasty room and some Frank Sinatra playing. They then took my temperature and got me connected to IV. Dr. Pratt came in and made the marks on my chest like they do in the show "Nip Tuck". I then met with the anesthesiologist who was very informative about the anesthesia process. It was reassuring knowing how I would feel during and after. He gave me my anesthesia and then walked me to the operating room. I layed down and before I knew it I was out. I honestly don't even remember falling asleep. I woke up like nothing happened , wondering where I was and if we even started the surgery yet. Then one of the nurses said you're all done and that the surgery was done about 30 mins ago. I was napping for a little in the post op room. The nurse then helped me into my compression vest. I wasn't in pain at all and I was very relaxed. The surgery was approximately 2 1/2 hours long. My wife and I then set up a post-op appointment for the following week. We went to my post-op appointment and Dr. Pratt told me that I was healing very well. We scheduled the second post of appointment for the following week. When I met Dr. Pratt this time my swelling had come down quite a bit and he told me since I was healing so well I didn't have to wear my compression vest any more. I was very happy to hear the good news. I have been very pleased with the results following the surgery. I feel much more confident and for the first time since I was a kid I'm excited for summer! I basically just kept it easy durring my heal time. No heavy lifting for about a month. Sleeping on my back was no problem at all. Sometimes I would turn to my side a little and my wife would just push me back on to my back. I didn't experience and harsh pain following surgery. I was just a little sore like I had a super aggressive chest day in the gym. As far as the painkillers I only had to take those for about 3 days and the antibiotics until they were gone. Also I couldn't raise my arms fully until about the 2nd week and that wasn't an issue at all due to my job being very relaxed.
If you are fed up with with your Gynocomastia you should have a true artist sculpt your chest. He gave me the chance to feel like I'm in control of my life again. I am no longer controlled by negative thoughts and daily ritual gyno hiding techniques. I am forever greatful to Dr. Pratt and I would reccomend him with 100% faith that you will be satisfied. Dr. Pratt and his team are amazing and they really make the whole experience as stress free and comfortable as possible.
Ps. Anything I missed in this write up I will address in future updates, pictures and videos. Cheers!
