Like many other reviewers, I've wanted implants...
Like many other reviewers, I've wanted implants for as long as I can remember. I've never had an issue keeping fit and in shape, at 5'5, 115 lbs, and have maintained my weight even after two pregnancies. But no matter how much I work out, I am still unhappy with my barely-there, 34A breasts. While they are symmetrical and not misshapen, which I am thankful for, they just were not feminine looking. This year, my husband and I really started talking about it as we knew we were done having babies. I reviwed Dr's, called and got some prices, and decided that I wanted submuscular gummy bear implants. I put it off for a while because life got busy, but this spring really decided I wanted to go for it. I was tired of wearing a bikini and being so self-conscious around friends who had boobs. My husband is amazing and always told me that he liked what I had, but while breast-feeding when my boobs were closer to a C cup, he definitely gave them more attention then he had in the past. And my confidence was amazing. After breast-feeding, my breasts just looked deflated and even smaller. Even the Victoria's Secret Bombshell couldn't give me cleavage :(
I scheduled consultations with 3 different plastic surgeons, and ended up going with the one that was actually closest, with the most experience. His before/after pictures were amazing, and had the look I was going for, and his price point was also a little easier to swallow. However, I would have paid extra if that's what it took, but I felt confident with Dr. Cummings. He also was able to get me in quickly because he does surgeries every morning instead of just one day a week, and since we are moving in 2 months, that worked out best for us. I'm a major last-minute gal, in pretty much every area of my life and my boobs were no different. Don't get me wrong, I researched my heart out and feel very good about my choice, but I'm glad that I was able to get it done without waiting 6 months like other surgeons expected because this just worked best with my time frame.
I knew I wanted something modest as I am a petite-framed girl with very little breast. We are moving back to our home state this summer after 8 years moving around with the military and I did not want my boobs to be the first thing people noticed, but also knew that after not seeing us often over 8years, people would not notice if they were modest. I know it sounds silly to care what people think, but... I do. I just want to be happy and not have to deal with snide, closed-minded remarks.
At my consultation I showed my Dr. pictures, and told him I wanted a medium C, and he explained that that was good because that was as big as I could go for my frame anyway and he aimed to keep things natural looking. He told me he would place sizers in and see how big he could go before my muscles spasm'ed, and get as close to my goal size as he could. I decided on the sientra round gummy bear implant after feeling it and seeing how little it rippled even when trying. It's also the most cohesive while still feeling so soft and natural.
Before surgery I felt mostly excitement, and was so excited to buy new shirts that would look feminine on me, and also for the fact that I would not have to wear a bra for 6 months, or forever if I chose. My dr. does a rapid-recovery method which means absolutely no bras or compression garments during recovery period, no massages, only showers and rolling shoulder exercises to keep muscles relaxed.
The only nervousness I had was for the general anesthesia. I had never been under before and it terrified me a little. What if something bad happened all over something as "petty" as breasts. But, I have a "you only live once" philosophy, and unlike a lot of people I know, when I decide I want something, I don't just talk about it, I DO it! :)
Fast-forward to post-op. I woke up from the surgery very much out of it, and I remember looking down my shirt to see my boobs and asking my husband if they looked good, to which he said they looked awesome. They were 320cc silicone and they were PERFECT. I'm at 5 days PO now and they have softened and started dropping already. I'm so looking forward to what they look like.
My dr prescribed me naproxen, vicodin, and zofran (nausea med) because i have gotten sick from meds in the past. So far I haven't touched the vicodin, and have only used the zofran the first day. The naproxen helps with tightness and achey pain, but as far as pain aside from the achey muscle pains, I've have very little. The only pain I feel is when I actually have to use my pec muscle, and the itcheyness where incisions are starting to heal.
I've been putting bio oil on them starting day 1. Sleeping hasn't been a problem at all, I'm just sleeping propped up, and I'm using a heating pad often for my back as that's really the most painful part of the whole thing.
My mom stayed with me for the first 3 days after the surgery so my husband wouldn't have to take off work, and then he was home with me this weekend. Today's my first full day alone and I'm feeling great. I am still taking care not to move my arms above my head or lift too heavy of items, but otherwise I feel like I'm about 50%, which surprised me because I had read it took others 3 weeks to get to 50%. My PS told me that when I started feeling "tight" to hop in the shower, and it has worked so well. The rapid recovery method has been amazing, and my breasts already look so good at 5 days post op, and I wouldn't have it any other way because being confined or limited is not my cup of tea. Also, when I asked my PS when my breasts should start to look good after surgery, he told me day 1 if done correctly. Of course you will have dropping and swelling changes, but aside from that.. they look so good already. My dominant side's muscle is giving me more of a pain as far as not relaxing, but I'm sure that's because it is stronger and used more often. It's not noticeable to anyone other than me.
I have had some mild constipation and gas pains. Be prepared for your stomach to bloat up and be uncomfortable for the first several days. Miralax helps!
Things I stocked up on before procedure:
Arnica cream (bought at rite-aid)
Arnica tablets (bought at GNC) both for inflammation
Granola bars (fiber one bars)
Protein shake for right after surgery to take meds on
button-up shirts (you will not want to lift your arms, so button up shirts are our best friend. Also, camisoles you can pull on from your feet and pull up)
nipple petals to cover nipples
bio oil
heating pad if you don't have one
house coat for getting out of shower
Also make sure items you need are placed below chest level so you can grab them yourself if you need. Ask for help when you need. Some things that you do use a lot of pec muscle, like closing a car door for example, or sitting up in bed. Also, prepare to not be able to do your hair for a while. Give your husband or boyfriend a crash course in putting a pony tail in or a braid in before the surgery.
Even though I'm only at 5 days out, I can already tell you my confidence has spiked tremendously. I am SO happy. And no one will be able to tell I have implants, however my body looks so great and proportionate. I love the way I look in a bikini now. If you are afraid of pain, find a doctor who does the rapid recovery method--I assure you it's worth it and I was feeling up to being out and about on the evening of Day 1. I went on a date with my husband on day 2. Being able to use hot showers instead of vicodin was SO amazing because I hate taking pills but a hot shower was so therapeutic. I will post pictures when I get the opportunity soon!
