Day 5 High Water Mark

WORTH IT
I started with several Actinic Keratoses [AK] on my face. These had been treated with liquid nitrogen but the lesions either came back or more appeared. With the concern for squamous cell carcinomas developing, at the recommendation of the dermatologist, I opted for photodynamic therapy. I have little to add to others who have left reviews with a just a few exceptions. Ameluz gel was applied and left on for 1 hour. Next, after the eye protectors were placed over my eyes, a red light (BF-RhodoLED) was placed close to my face for 10 minutes on each side (20 min total). The heat was quite intense, but somewhat bearable. For the next few days all progressed as many here have described. Other than staying out of the sun for 48 hours, life went on as normal. For me, Day 5 was the "highwater mark" because my skin felt so incredibly tight it was a point of distraction. By Day 6 peeling started and with it brought enormous relief. At this writing I am on Day 8 and I have to say that while there is still some peeling, my skin is looking good. Redness follows all that peeling skin; however, the feel of the skin is very different from that sore red sunburned look that hits a person several hours after the procedure. No pictures are included with this review because, quite honestly, my face looked so scary I don't want to inflict that sight on anyone. ;-) Besides, some people have already put up some excellent photos of their recovery stages. The procedure is definitely worth the discomfort of a few days.

Thanks for your review-- I'm on day 4 and look pretty scary myself. This blog has been so helpful for me to see the progress of others.
