Post op Day 18 (2.5 weeks)

I'll try to be brief and give a run down on the last couple weeks.

The days immediately after my last post I spent resting. Thanksgiving day I was 6 days po. I felt great for the majority of the day, but collapsed from exhaustion by 5 pm.

By day 10 I was feeling great. I had my stitches removed, and was told I'd not see the doc for another 4-6 weeks unless problems occurred. I still had feelings of discomfort, but nothing unusual or out of the ordinary.

The beginning of week two I noticed my left breast had no pain whatsoever. This was totally unlike my right breast, which has been feeling more pained and swollen. The inside bottom portion of the right was very tender, but I learned it was because the muscle was dissected there. My right breast also began to experience hypersensitivity, akin to a sunburned feeling. By the end of this week, I'd say day 16, that localized pain moved and had since been totally isolated in the 2-3 in directly around my nipple. The left breast is still feeling good.

At this point, which is po day 18, lefty is still healing like a champ, and righty is being a jerk. I still have morning boob, but it takes all of a minute moving around to loosen up.

I really think the difference in healing between the two breasts has to do with the fact I'm right handed. The right pec is not only stronger, but also gets much more use on a daily basis. I'm thinking about putting a splint or sling on the right arm, while I'm home to remind myself to take it easy.

I'm still super paranoid of getting a blot clot, having a hematoma, and developing CC. I wonder when the worry won't be as persistent in my daily life.

From the beginning, I was cleared to wear whatever was comfortable. I live in comfy, sports bras. The soft, wide band feels best, and I love the support it gives. I did put on a bra that I wore before surgery, and it fits great and looks better. And, I know it's a little early, but I did buy a bra at TJ Maxx this last weekend. It was only $7. Score!

Hope you all are doing well!

Days 3/4 post op

Yesterday, day 3 was my first day without any narcotics. I took one extra strength Tylenol in the morning for pain control, and it seemed to be sufficient. I do not like Hyrdocodone at all. It makes me loopy, my vision is blurred, and I get a mildly upset stomach. I had another day of rest. I took a cat nap in the afternoon and was asleep for the night by 10. I'm still achy in my arm pits, but am feeling much better than the last two days. Getting up and down is much easier today. I've been icing off and on, and am dying to get extra tape off. I must have an adhesive allergy because I itch like crazy. All in all, a better day than the day before. I'm glad and grateful for the help I've had.

Day 4, today, I woke up with what I'm assuming is morning boob. It feels stiff and achy but subsides with stretching and movement. For all of the mom's out there that have nursed, it feels like milk engorgement, heavy and full. I had my first post op visit today, and finally got to see the girls. Right now they are bigger than what I wanted, but there's still a bit of swelling. Although Dr. B did say I won't change size too much. How long until they reach their forever size?

At this point, I'm still sore and tired, but am incredibly happy to have had my BA. It's so nice having boobs.

A brief review of surgery day, and days 1 and 2 post op

I left for the surgery center on Friday morning at 10:15, and finished up registration by 10:50. At about 11, they called me back to get my weight, a urine sample, and have me change into a robe. While waiting for the doctor, the anesthesiologist came in and we went over my history with general anesthesia. I told him how sick I get after surgery and he told me they'd be very proactive in making me comfortable. I got a anti-nausea patch behind my ear and a pepcid. They administered extra zofran in my iv, and told me they'd give me more before bringing me out of surgery.

Dr. B came in and marked me up, and as soon as he was done, the nurses wheeled me into the OR. I switched beds, and they started strapping me to the table, legs, and arms. I wasn't expecting it. Before too long, I had an oxygen mask on. As soon as the versed hit my bloodstream I was out cold. I woke up in recovery and asked for my sunglasses; the lights are so bright. I got some crackers and sprite to take a pain pill. I was tired and nauseous. Still, I made it into the car, thankfully with my puke bag, because as soon as we started moving, I vomited up everything.

We got home and I kept vomiting. Once I made it into my bed, the nausea passed. I pretty much slept the rest of the day away.

PO day 1, I was up walking around, but unable to really move my arms without pain. I couldn't believe how much help I needed to sit up. I couldn't even open the freezer door to get ice packs. I napped on and off all day. It's been so nice to sleep when I'm tired. By the end of the day, I was feeling much better and my range of motion in my arms improved greatly.

PO Day 2 (today). I can get myself out of bed (yay!). I still have quite a bit of discomfort in my pecs and arm pits, but the incisions themselves haven't really bothered me. That's it so far. I think I'm going to take another nap.
