Ever since I was 11 years old I've noticed that my labia were different from most of my peers and I immediately felt self-conscious about it. I was at a week-long retreat and there were communal showers and I came up with every excuse possible to avoid it.

This embarrassment in time only grew into a complex so great that it interfered with my relationships, compromised my self-esteem and willingness to socialize... I turned down any occasion that would require a swimsuit and as I got older, my labia got bigger and it began inhibiting me from wearing jeans comfortably, bike and horseback riding were out of the question, sitting down too long (like even in a movie) was (is) unbearable and sexual intimacy was a "lights off -don't touch" policy. I hated my body- the way it looked, the way it mace me feel, the physical discomfort it brought and the emotional havoc it wreaked on me every day. It wasn't just a flaw but rather a curse and a painful one at that.

I had been searching for an affordable and reputable surgeon for quite some time but between finances and finding the right doctor with whom I felt comfortable with, I hadn't committed until my annual examwith my obgyn, Dr. Susan Chapman. She mentioned to me that my labia protruded 4 cms past my labia majora and that she could do this procedure if i wanted her to. I didn't even know she did those procedures!! I was excited and three weeks later, I had my procedure done under local anesthesia.

I was soooooooo nervous about being awake throughout the surgery but she assured me that I would be fine and I wouldn't feel any pain. I was prescribed antibiotics, pain killers, nausea meds just in case and sleep medicine for pre and post surgery. The procedure was performed at her clinic at the Pali Women's health center in Kailua, HI.

My day went like this...
12:45: arrived at the clinic, took the meds, numbing cream for the anesthesia injection was applied.
1:45: drugs kicked in, doctor marked my labia and injected anesthesia
2:00pm or so surgery began. I was awake and talking and aware. .. they were gentle and held a conversation politely and willingly with a freaked out chick on the table. :-)
3:30pm or so... sewn up. They let my Beau in and I got my underwear on with a pad attached to it and walked out with my own two feet. I was a little in and out throughout the day with the meds.
9pm I felt uncomfortable, took pain meds and iced the area.

Saturday, the next morning, I stayed in bed watching movies, iced the area and took the meds on time. No real pain, just a little discomfort here and there.

Day 3:
Sunday, I walked around a LOT. Went to the supermarket, visited my grandma, drove, acted like a normal day. No pain, just discomfort here and there.

Day 4
Monday (today) drove myself to work at my desk job. Sitting is uncomfortable, but I'm not in pain. The discomfort I feel would be equivalent with how it felt pre-surgery in tight jeans sitting down. No more than that.

My area down there is by NO MEANS black and blue. I do, however, have some swelling and I have no idea what and where is what and where -everything is a bit confusing but my boyfriend was worried and amused when I yelled out "I CAN'T FIND MY CLIT!! I DON'T KNOW WHERE'S IT IS! !" He was like "everything is still swollen babe, it's gotta heal first!"

Anyway- I'm at work- 3 days after surgery and I am functioning just fine. Dr. Chapman was incredible and I don't even really need the pain meds. If you want a great experience with this surgery, go to her! Photos to come after my post op appointment!

Good luck and God bless, ladies! !
So happy I finally did it! !
