Mirco Raffaini / A Nightmare Experience /

Canted jaw post op.

Zero bone graft used.

Im only 2 months post op with Raffaini but after reviewing my ct scan this week, I have to admit I’m utterly devastated right now and confirms my fears I will need another revision surgery to correct his work.

My post op scan shows significant canting and yawing/deviation of both jaws and chin to one side. Severe step off angles from the surgery, inability to breathe correctly through my nose, twisted and torqued ramus from the fixation and just all around a really poor aesthetic horrible result that makes me look much much worse than I did before. I’m writing this in floods of tears because I know it won’t correct itself.

Im fully prepared to add further pictures and scans to add to this review of the doctor wants to dispute it here. Because I know all too well how the patter will go - “I’m a revision case - it was complicated - I did what I could” We’ve heard it all before in his replies on reviews.

Yes I’m a revision case, yes I did not expect perfection. But what I didn’t expect was to come out of surgery looking worse and with way more asymmetries and functional issues I had prior. “Don’t make me look worse” is a very low bar which I asked of him.

I have signed myself off from his care and all my documents be released as of today, as I just can’t deal with his gaslighting and overall just extremely erratic behaviour. I have zero patience for someone supposedly this reputable acting like a petulant child in a 60 year old body.

As patients we are allowed to be a bit emotional. Post surgery we are emotional beings fraught with worry and pain etc, and a few days back in a panic (completely justified after seeing my scan) I expressed a fairly polite straight to the point list of some worries and asymmetries I had post surgery.

This was prior to him strolling in 40mins late from when the clinic said he would be there.

He barges into the clinic ranting and raving at me, telling me it’s a “perfect result” he will “not tolerate my criticism and behaviour and I’m wrong” Just overall extremely brutish and aggressive when I was sitting there very upset with what I know to be now 100% valid points.

Absolutely zero respect for my time at all after getting up at 4am to catch 2 trains to see him. I nearly missed my flight home after paying 600 euros to travel there to see him rip me to shreds and tell me it’s all in my head. It was quite frankly a nightmare experience. I spent 2 hrs in the taxi home crying.

I’m now in the process of seeing what can be done to correct the canted upper and lower jaws in the timeframe I have whilst the bone hasn’t fully fused. I absolutely understand no circumstances want to go back to him. I’m frankly scared of him at this point given his behaviour last time around.

I recorded the consultation audio on my phone just because I’m all honesty I wanted to protect myself.

I’m sure this doctor has had many good results. But what I have learned with Raffaini is it’s a 1 in so many chance as you whether that good result will be you.

He’s in my opinion based on my case alone, sloppy, careless, imprecise, doesn’t respect your time, doesn’t respect your emotions, doesn’t respect your opinion, and personally I have learned the hard way, again.

I’ll be posting attachments to this review once I collate them properly, so that none of of my points are dismissed as fabricated, which judging by others on here he will aggressively to try to minimise. He will not do that again with me as I’m way too prepared.

Ps regarding bone grafts: After I queried it, he said post op he used bone grafts in my case to fill in the gaps.

I can only assume that he must think I don’t know how a ct viewer works, because I can categorically assure you that based on my scan there are zero bone grafts inserted in the gaps on my mandible gaps where the bsso was made. None.

I mention this point to illustrate that he often lies. He champions bone grafts as absolutely essential to prevent step off angles or notching post op but I guess he only uses bone grafts when he feels like it, or reserves it for his special cases.
