Asymmetrical Mandible Implants Need Revision
curious466January 11, 2024
I received jaw implants from Dr. Ruff in November 2019. His bedside manner was great and he is a great communicator. I travelled to D.C. for the procedure from New York. The surgery went fine, seemingly. A couple days after the procedure, I could tell that something was wrong on one side. The implant appeared rotated: the top of it was forward on my face and the bottom of it was protruding off my jawline and into my neck. I told Dr. Ruff, and he had me travel back to D.C. After consultation, he assured me it was just a swollen gland and nothing was wrong. He assured me again that the implant cannot have shifted because he screwed them in place.
But it was super asymmetrical. It wasn't a gland, it was the implant. I wore a beard for 4 years to keep it covered. I'm finally getting a revision from another doctor, and I got a CT scan. You can clearly see the misplaced implant. And there does not appear to be any screws (though I can confirm with my surgeon after the procedure).
Dr. Ruff was very nice, and having volume in my lower face was a benefit for sure. But now I'm dropping $30k and taking weeks of recovery to get the jawline I thought I was getting years ago.
