When I was in his office for Botox, I asked his nurse about the procedure and the cost. All my questions were answered. I was shown before and after pictures of his work and felt very comfortable in his hands.
I went in yesterday to have it done. His staff is warm, caring, and proficient. I was given a Valium and a half-hour later Dr. Duffy began numbing one side of my face. The anesthetic shots are the worst part, but bearable. Afterward, I could not feel a thing as he worked but was pretty aware of what was happening. His nurse held my hand during the shots and rubbed my feet during the procedure.
Before I knew it, he was done. He took me to a mirror and showed me what he had done and what to expect. He also took after pictures which he brought out to compare with the before ones. Even though I was swollen, I could still see that he had done a great job.
Took pain meds when I got home. Slept at a 45-degree angle when I could sleep. Also used a gel ice pack to try to lower the swelling.
Barbara, from his office called last night and again this morning. She answered my questions and made my follow-up appointment in two weeks. Can't wait to see the difference then.

Hi, congratulations to you for getting this done. I had a mini 2 weeks ago and after the swelling went down you can really see a difference. It was worth every penny!

Thanks GulKvinna. I'm already pleased with the results and it's only been two days! I was actually able to shower, put on some makeup, and go to lunch with my husband.

It's a nice feeling. The week after mine I picked up my grand daughter at her after school program and the new girl in the office thought I was her mom :) have a swift recovery!

Glad you are on the other side of this! Do you know how long your procedure took?

Thanks so much for sharing and I hope you'll keep us posted as you continue to heal. :)

It took approximately 45 minutes on each side then 30 minutes in recovery. Had a rough day and night yesterday, but feeling much better today. Still swollen, but hardly in any pain.

I've had Botox on my forehead and Juvaderm in my marionette lines. During this procedure he made small cuts in front of my ears and tightened the skin below. It helped my jowls and a little on my neck, though I wasn't getting a neck lift only a lower face mini lift.

did they just tighten the skin or did they lift and tighten the muscles?

I believe he said he tightened the muscles some as well as lifting the skin.

Wow - what great results and again wow that you had it done in the his office! Yes I can imagine that the local is the worst part indeed, but it must really help recovery! You were out for dinner on day 2!! I could not open my mouth following a thread lift on day 2! lol. I have a mini lift in Feb, under a local - scary but I dread a general plus the recovery...

Well done you look stunning!!

Felt well enough to fix up and go to lunch with my husband. Cheeks are pretty swollen still. A stretchy headband hid my ear sutures.

Hi, I'm 5 days out from what sounds like the same procedure. in office, with valium and local injections. I have to wear a ridiculous compression garment 24/7 except showers for a full week. I'm not leaving the house with this on! Do you have any garment at all?
User Avatar
January 21, 2015
I do have a garment but I'm allowed to take it off when I go out for short periods. Last night I took it off in the middle of the night and woke up sleeping on my side instead of propped up, the fluid seemed to have shifted to one cheek. I learned my lesson and I'm being more disciplined about the compression garment and my sleeping position. Keep me updated on your progress.

Are you icing as well? Day 6. The swelling for me is going down, but still too odd looking to look normal. I go back to work on Monday after a week of 'vacation'. I have a lunchtime appointment that day to have the stitches in front of my ears removed. I don't think I'll be fooling anyone. How are you doing?

I quit icing after four days. Still wearing the compression garment. Never did get any bruising just swelling. It's seven days today and I'm still looking a bit distorted. I feel for you having to go back to work so soon. I didn't realize it was going to take so long to heal and I have plans to fly out to a family reunion in a couple of days. I have dissolvable stitches that are topped off with skin glue. They are not dissolving and look quite scary. I have been bobby pinning my hair in order to hide the incisions. I have an appointment in a week. Not sure what it is for. Let us know how your appointment goes on Monday.

I'm at one week as well. No pain, hardly any bruising, but the swelling remains. Lots of numbness though. It's not a problem, just an odd feeling. I think we both are having easy recuperations. I'm in the cold north, so I'm feeling a bad case of cabin fever. I'm hiding in the house. Being able to sit on the deck and read would probably be a big improvement. Any swelling treatment suggestions are appreciated!! Hope you're doing well!

I think I'd be a terrible patient if I was ever put on bed rest. I've been out every day. My husband asked if I'd been "busted," but either they're being polite, or they haven't noticed. As far as the swelling, stay off salt. Also, I drink pineapple juice, and put arnica cream on my face.Don't know if anything really helped. I'm still very numb and hard on the sides. That's where the distortion is, on one side of my eye. Kind of a puffy place. Will find out Tuesday what the doctor thinks. Take care!

Did your doctor instruct you to massage the area? Mine said to massage up and outward toward my ears twice a day for a minute or two using coconut butter, I've been using a body butter that's coconut based and it seems to help the numbness. I think that it also helps the skin to "stick" to the underlying muscles again in a higher position. I've also been massaging the incision areas with Neosporin to try to get the stitches to dissolve. The recovery part is definitely not for the faint of heart, but in a few weeks it will be a lot better!

No,my doctor didn't give me instructions to massage the area but it seems like a good idea. I think I have body butter somewhere around here. Haven't done the Neosporin yet either. I did trim some of the stitches that were poking out. So true about the squeamish factor. Can't even tell my husband about the procedure because he gets lightheaded :) Anyway, thanks for sharing your healing protocol.
January 23, 2015
My fiancé is a massage therapist and he won't do massage yet. You can delay healing and damage underlying stitches. After I've healed, he will do lymphatic massage. More aggressive massage for scars can be done later on. You have to let the tissue alone while it heals. He spoke to the doctor and they both agree. No massage until the doctor says I'm ready.

Thanks for your input. I guess it depends on the individual circumstance and doctor. My doctor also didn't suggest massaging yet. I'll see him in a few days and see if he gives me the green light.
January 23, 2015
Yes, it seems like each doctor gives different instructions. Same with the garments. Some say wear it for weeks, others for a couple days. I'd love to hear what your doctor recommends. I'm drinking lots of pineapple juice now and using the arnica cream and pills. I'm impatient to feel normal, but each day I look better.

I had my sutures removed yesterday. There were so many tiny sutures, it took an hour. Hopefully this means no/little scar. The doctor told me still no massage. I'll see him at the 3 week mark, in 9 days and he said he'd discuss massage and scar management. He said I don't have to wear the garment anymore if I don't want to. I didn't wear it to bed last night and rolled onto my stomach for the first time since surgery, so maybe I need to wear it a little longer. Just to remind myself to stay on my back! I'm extremely numb, but the swelling is way down and no one at work seemed to notice anything. How are you guys doing?
User Avatar
January 27, 2015
Getting those sutures out is a good thing! I'm still numb too after almost 4 weeks. Guess it takes a while for the nerve endings to re grow. I have my pillows arranged so I kind of have to stay on my back. One plastic surgeon I talked to says he always sleeps on his back to avoid getting creases. So get used to it! After the second week I thought "the honeymoon is over" because the first week you're being taken care of, you're pretty drugged up and relaxed all the time, catching up on your reading and naps, it was like a mini vacation. Then the reality of recovery sets in :) you're back to work and tapering off of your meds. Said it would take 3-4 months before you are mostly healed up, it can't come soon enough!

I went today for my two week checkup. All is going very well. He said I am still healing and a couple of little bumps I was concerned about will disappear with time. He's been right about everything else. Also said to continue to wear the garment at night. I really think he went above and beyond what I expected. Still have glue over some sutures. My sutures don't need to be removed so I don't need to return. Glad you girls are doing well too!
