I researched for the last 12 months hair...

I researched for the last 12 months hair transplant options both in the UK and abroad, I found scarcity in the information on the training background of most of the UK hair transplant doctors on the web. I think I only found 2 who clearly were surgeons.

Being a surgeon in the NHS myself, I took the credentials of the surgeon operating on me seriously. General principles that would lead me to look for their background are: Is the doctor a surgeon? How often do they do this procedure? How senior are they? Do they train others?

Paradoxically, despite the bad press 'cheap hair transplants' in Turkey may get, knowing they do the procedure in abdundance is encouraging.

After much research I picked AEK because Dr Ali is a plastic sugeon, it is he who leads the procedures and this is all he does all the time. I found his presence at academic hair transplant conferences very encouraging.

My contact with him was online where I shared photos. 2300 grafts were recommended. He recommended the hotel next to his building, which is 5* and was adequate for my needs. When he saw me he was honest with his recommendations which was more conservative than which I was seeking but I understood his recommendations were intended to be in my best interests and we eventually negotiated a plan for my operation. With a third of grafts going to the hairline and the rest on the top of the scalp.

It was done under local anaesthetic and both graft harvest and implantation was led by him. I was a difficult case as my graft harvesting was challenging due to the nature of my scalp but the team kept me updated and informed throughout during the 8 hour procedure. Looking back - it was a lot of work!
They harvested 2030 grafts.

Dr Ali and his team were professional and communicated with me well and at all times I felt at ease and confident of his services. I was also a difficult patient as I insisted on not shaving the top of my head in order to camouflage the graft harvest site.

I was good to catch my flight back to the UK the following morning, and I made it to work the next day. I was walking around in my scrubs and a theatre hat at work (a few disapproving shaking of the head in the corridors as there is some infection control policy around not wearing theatre hats outside theatre). The scabs fell off by the end of week one, just in time for the next outpatient clinic I needed to be at. I just looked like I had had a rather dodgy haircut with the sides and back shaved.

I am very grateful to Dr Ali for the work he put in, the whole experience was very easy: The 4 hour flight, a very affordable 5* hotel, and professional clinic team and surgeon.

Now I look forward to the results. I will post the (face blurred out) pics in 6-12 months time.

Dr Ali was honest about his views on what the operation should entail, he was courteous and I had no problems communicating with him. He is always contactable over viber. The staff in the clinic made me lunch before the procedure and a rather outstanding gourmet burger after the procedure which I am still thinking about! The wanted to see me the following day for shampooing but I had to catch my flight so I did this myself.
