Clinicana FUE Hair Transplant - AVOID

2 years and some months ago I started to entertain the possibility of a FUE hair transplant. After some superficial online searching, I entered a “let’s do it” mindset. In retrospect, I was extremely irresponsible and didn't do the necessary research on hair transplants. There are factors to consider: number of grafts extracted in one session, the fact that we have a limited donor area and we should use it carefully (and that single "mega-sessions" of > 3000 grafts are not recommended), graft placement, design of a natural hairline, who does the graft placement (experienced surgeons or technicians). At this moment, I was mostly unaware of these points.

During my search, Clinicana stood out in terms of prices and reviews (suspiciously, they were mostly from one website, I believe WhatClinic). The clinic website also seemed professional. After a couple of emails and exchanged photos a 3500 graft FUE hair transplant was decided.

Everything went smoothly, but on the operation day there was virtually no discussion of the operation details. Just before it started, the hairline that was drawn on my forehead was too low and I asked them to draw it higher. I still wasn't convinced with the slightly higher second hairline but I decided to trust the doctor (was he a doctor? I never figured that out. I’m not sure I interacted with a doctor during this process) and go ahead with the operation (note to self: next time in similar circumstances jump straight out of the window).

The operation was mostly done by 2 young girl technicians, one working on each side. They injected a strong drug in my scalp (that was painful) which made the overall experience pleasant. I remember being scared with what seemed like attempts to contain bleeding, the all star shoes of the technicians, eating something in the middle. It lasted for around 5 hours, shorter than what I was expecting. Before and after this scientific experiment, the personal was extremely attentive and nice. The clinic looked great, modern, new and clean. Afterwards, they pressured me to write a favourable review about the operation ([RS bleep], the ones I had read before were written like this). I didn't - I would wait for the results first.

Fast forward 2 years: god, what a mess. Hairline is too low and looks unnatural, not symmetric (lower on one side), transplanted hairs look pluggy and fake (hairs too thick, sparse and going up in different directions), hair placement and density is a work of art (islands of high density in the temples, density higher in the hairline area compared to the top - resulting in a charming "monk tonsure" look). Overall density and hair quality arguably worse than before the operation. Donor area is very depleted, looking burnt. Every time I take a picture of my head's back my heart sinks. Nope, not much hair left there. Ah, I have some isolated thick hairs growing half a cm or so below the hairline. I have no idea why they were placed there. I shave them everyday.

I am considering my options: another FUE to correct this disaster is not an option, considering the state of my donor area. And no way I will get a FUT smile scar. Tattooing my head with micro-pigmentation? Something I will definitely not regret when older. Maybe laser hair removal?

But everything has a positive side: no more worrying about hairstyles or going to the hairdresser. Because not looking like [RS bleep] implies shaving my head with a 5mm guard. I'm also going to the gym everyday. Because bald white skinny guys rock.

Guys, don't repeat my mistake. Chose a reputable clinic and surgeon even if more expensive. Discuss the details of the operation. Consult online forums. Ask questions. Do your research. Remember that you will be stuck forever with the consequences of an hair transplant and fixing a bad transplant is near impossible. If I could pay the money I paid for this operation just to have it undone, if I could, I surely would.
