Revision Case - Third Time's a Charm?!

UPDATED FROM UK2018

One Month Post-Op Photos

WORTH IT
Hello everyone!
My nose is still quite swollen but I thought it would be good to show you all a couple of ‘before’ and ‘after’ pictures of my nose at exactly one month post-op.There is still some asymmetry in the nostril area but I think we can all agree that it’s a massive improvement on my nose before my revision surgery! My scar is still quite red - any recommendations for helping the scar heal neatly, are welcome.

Looks great in pics, thanks for sharing! Regarding the scar - there’re special gels with silicone to put on the scars, try one of them !
I’m going to look into that, thank you!
On the second picture, which one is the revision? Thanks!
The picture on the right :)
But the first picture looks beautiful (well from the picture). What did you think was wrong with it? On the first set of pictures I see the problem clearly but on the profile I don't see anything wrong with the first picture... just curious because I have the same problem (one side of my nose has extra "skin")
Oh thank you! I actually didn’t mind the profile from the side that the picture shows, it was the other side (my left side) that looked like it was collapsing but I can’t find a clear picture from that side! He shortened the tip slightly but didn’t touch the slight bump on the bridge :)
What caused your front issue? Was it a graft? How far post op did you notice it? I had revision surgery 2 months ago and I have a tip graft and thin skin so I’m kinda worried :(
Oh I see! Thank you for responding :) and you can try creams for the redness, but frankly from all my surgeries experiences they only help a little. I'm using one called "Contractubex" from Brazil.
Your nose looks lovely. Any more post op pictures??

Happy!

Hi everyone!
I hope you're all well.
I am now back home and almost 2 weeks post-op so, I thought it's time to post an update!
Before going into details regarding the surgery and my recovery so far, I want to say that I am extremely happy with the result. I am a very positive person generally but I was definitely rather nervous going into this - perhaps because of the disappointment I had felt after my previous experiences or just the fact that surgery of any kind is a big deal.
The day after I landed in Istanbul, I had an appointment at Dr Ilhan's office to meet with Cansu and Cey (his nurse and assistant). The meeting with them lasted around an hour and it was very in-depth, detailing the potential risks of surgery and how to deal with them and also the post-op instructions and tips. It was also an opportunity for me to ask any questions that I had regarding the surgery.
Following this meeting, I went in to see Dr Ilhan for the first time in around 9 months. We discussed what I wanted to achieve and I made sure to let him know that I was after a small change, I didn't want a smaller nose, I just wanted a more symmetrical tip. I found it was easier for me to tell him what I didn't want rather than what I did want. During the consultation, he was writing everything down and I felt like he was understanding my vision. I told him I was concerned about the use of rib cartilage as I didn't want to have a scar in this area and he said that he would only use grafts if it was absolutely necessary.
A couple of days later, I had another consultation with Dr Ilhan and for this one, he took pictures of my face. He did a quick morph of the side profile and explained that he doesn't usually do front-facing morphs as he cannot manipulate the equipment he uses to really show what can be achieved. I didn't mind as I felt that we were already on the same page with regards to the desired outcome.
The next day was the day of my surgery! My surgery was scheduled for around 12pm but I actually went in at just before 2pm. I hadn't had anything to eat since 7pm the night before but I felt fine in terms of hunger, I was just very thirsty. You can eat and drink up to 6 hours before your surgery, I just didn't have much of an appetite (not like me at all lol).
My blood was taken as soon as I got to my private room at the hospital and I was asked to relax while I waited to be taken into theatre. When the time came, I was given disposable underwear and a robe to wear and then I was wheeled off. I had been very calm up until this point. Once I was wheeled into the room where my surgery would take place, I started to panic internally. Maybe it was the rush of people around me and my not being able to understand the language but when I saw Cansu walk in, I immediately calmed down. I shut my eyes, started praying and then the anaesthetist said 'sleep' and I was off!
My mum said that my surgery lasted between 2 to 3 hours. I woke up shivering all over and my teeth were chattering. I had read in another review, that someone else had been through this as well and so I wasn't worried, I knew it was just the anaesthetic wearing off. I immediately reached for my chest and was relieved to realise that they had not needed to use rib cartilage!
My first night was a struggle, I had a really bad sore throat and felt vey nauseous. The nurse looking after me during my stay was an absolute angel, I loved her! I felt so bad for her because, in the middle of the night, I went to the toilet and all of a sudden started to feel dizzy and as though I was about to be sick. I pressed the button for her to come (my mum was asleep and I didn't want to scare her) and the nurse came running to my room. When she got there, blood started gushing out of my nose and I wanted to cry but she held my face and told me it's nothing to worry about. She helped me clean my nose and then got me back to my bed and told me to keep my chin tucked into my chest to stop the bleeding. The bleeding stopped as soon as I did this! She then brought over a rubber glove filled with ice and placed it on the back of my neck because I'd become so hot. This felt amazing after that ordeal.
Dr Ilhan and Cansu visited me a couple of times each before I was discharged and I kept wishing I could smile at them and show my gratitude but instead, I just looked like death warmed up lol.
I will say that I struggled during my first few days of recovery. I had a really bad sore throat and felt very nauseous the whole time so I refused to eat or drink anything for the first 3 days! This is the worst thing you could do, especially for your swelling and it's probably why I was very, very swollen and bruised up following surgery. They recommend you drink 3 litres of water a day and to eat a lot of salt-free, healthy food which I have now been doing.
On the third day following surgery, I saw Dr Ilhan at his office and he checked and cleaned out my nose for me. A further two days later, Dr Ilhan removed my cast and the silicone tubes from inside my nose. I was expecting this to hurt but it didn't at all - I must have a high pain threshold though as I'd heard a lady sounding as though she was in agony while having this done a couple of days earlier. To my absolute relief, I could breathe better than I had ever been able to before! I wasn't shown my nose at this stage as he said it was still very swollen but I was prepared for this.
A few days later, I had my stitches removed by Dr Ilhan's nurse as he was away for the weekend (I think he was just as disappointed as I was, not to be there for this appointment). This didn't hurt either but please be prepared because I know that some people find this extremely painful. The nurse showed me my nose and I can honestly say I was so happy! I just saw myself with a straight nose and symmetrical nostrils. It's a small change but I know it would have been difficult for him to achieve.
I am so grateful to Dr Ilhan and his wonderful team. I love everyone that works with him, they are so, so sweet and I had to hug them all before I left because it felt like I was leaving my friends lol! I'm sad I didn't get to see Dr Ilhan or Cansu on my last day but I have promised to go back to Istanbul next year just to see everyone again.
My nose is still very swollen but I don't have any bruising left now. I can breathe through my nose but not as well as when Dr Ilhan cleaned it after removing the silicone tubes. This is most likely because I'm not allowed to clean my nose by putting anything up my nostrils as he did. I just have to wait for it to heal on the inside and for the swelling to go down!
For now, I am still sleeping upright and I am keeping my nose taped up while at home to help with the swelling.
I have tried to make this update as detailed as possible but I feel like there is still so much more I could tell you so, if you have any questions, just leave them below for me.
As an ending note, I want to say that I am so pleased to have found Dr Ilhan and I hope that this review has helped you with your decision-making!

Nervous/Excited!

Hello everyone!
It is now just over a week until I am due to have my surgery with Dr Emre Ilhan and I can feel the nerves creeping up on me.
I have been thinking about the questions that I would like to ask Dr Ilhan during my pre-op consultation and I thought it would be a good idea to ask for your help/thoughts as well.
As mine is a revision case, I know that it is likely Dr Ilhan will want to harvest some rib cartilage. I would really like to avoid this as I am dreading the pain and more importantly, the scar that this will leave. Have any of you had rib cartilage harvested during your surgery and what is the recovery/scarring like?
My nose at the moment isn't tiny and over-scooped, it is still very natural looking following my previous surgeries and so I am hoping that my previous surgeon has left enough cartilage in my nose for Dr Ilhan to work with, without the need for additional material.
Secondly, my nostrils are visibly asymmetrical. My nostrils have not been touched before and I would like them to be left alone this time as well as I think an 'alar base reduction' on my nostril shape would be very obvious in terms of the scarring. I say this because my nostrils don't have a clear base/end - they curl round towards the columella and any cuts would leave a visible scar. I told you guys that I'm a perfectionist! I tend to notice nostril scars on other people and I would like to avoid this for myself.
I cannot figure out how the asymmetry could be addressed, without any interference with the nostrils. Have any of you had nostril asymmetry corrected without the need for any exterior cuts?
Also, I will be staying in a hotel and I think it will be quite tricky to find salt-free soft foods that won't require any preparation/cooking. So, for anyone who has travelled for nose surgery, what foods would you recommend for the recovery period?
I look forward to hearing from you!

Hi! :) I had my surgery on the 14th august this year with Dr Ilhan. I took my mom with me and before the surgery we went to a supermarket to get some babyfood and joghurts and generally things that you can „eat“ with a straw as you‘re advised not to chew a lot and move your mouth. It was almost like a liquid diet haha Hope this helps xx
Hi Buffbunny! It does help, thank you :) are you pleased with your results so far? Xx
Yes totally! It’s still swollen and changes every day a little but he really did what I wished for and I couldn’t be happier. You’re in good hands! :)
Hi, maybe you have already undergone rhinoplasty surgery. If so, I want you to recover soon and be patient, you know from experience that this is a slow thing. I had the intervention with Dr. Emre Ilhan a month and a few days ago. For the moment I am very inflamed maybe because I ate some little thing with salt ... I'm terrible to endure the urge to eat things that I like. But I feel happy and I feel that my trip was worth it.
During my stay in the hotel, I drank a lot of kefir, liquid yoghurts, I ate hummus, turkey breast without salt, cheese without salt, natural tomato because it has good properties, boiled egg and ommelette. My advice is to book a hotel with half board or with breakfast buffet included. Have your companion take you to the room every day a plate with prepared ommelette dishes or boiled eggs. If you inform the hotel of your situation, they will let you raise the dish to the room and thus you will eat something prepared and hot. Happy intervention, happy recovery and good luck, I hope you have the nose you want. The doctor is wonderful.
PS: DRINK THREE LITERS OF WATER A DAY! : D You will see that your body asks for it and then thanks it.
