IPL was one huge disappointment for me. I was led on by misconceptions, only partially guided by my dermatologist, and I’ve spent $1,350 for barely noticeable results. I signed a contract for four IPL treatments, six weeks apart, for $337.50, which came to $1,350 total. I had some acne scarring and general age-related problems like redness and brown pigment spots to be treated. I was warned that IPL is not for scarring but that it might help anyway. I went for the spotting and redness though. My doctor was one of the best in the region. It felt like it too since I mostly spoke to his assistants and financial people. I waited the full length of the treatments before I even looked for a change. I didn’t want to get my hopes up. On my last day they showed me my “before” photo and gave it to me to take home. I was told to compare and see the miraculous difference. There really wasn’t one though. Some of the redness was gone, or lighter, but other than that I saw no changes. I also kind of think the changes I did see were due to the lighting or just me looking different six months later - not the IPL treatments themselves. I have talked with about 20 people online about IPL, some of whom have had dazzling results. I don’t think my experience is the end of it but - like with most cosmetic procedures - you should definitely be prepared to not have any results too.
