IPL for Mole Removal - Not Worth It

I previously had two adjacent moles removed from my face by shaving. I healed well, and it took many years for the moles to return. When they did, I visited a plastic surgeon, who recommended laser excision. This sounded great to me, so I returned and had it done twice, 5 weeks apart. It was IPL ablation with BBL done at the same time for redness.

The results were poor. I had wounds on my face well larger than the moles, and they took many weeks to heal. Almost as soon as they did, the pigmentation from the moles returned. Even tiny dots and blood vessels I had ablated at the same time returned. Tiny keratosis lesions that were ablated stayed gone, but the spots where they used to be are very red. More than two months later, I basically have the moles again, but with the addition of redness around them from laser treatment. I can't even really use makeup to hide it. I'm going for a second opinion and possibly to have them shaved again.

I started to research more and learned that IPL is really not a deep enough laser to remove a mole. I highly discourage anyone from using IPL for this condition.

Very nice facility with friendly staff. However, recommended procedure was probably not right for my condition.

IPL isn't a laser at all. It's pulse light. If your surgeon told you to get laser and then did IPL, that's a problem.

Fair enough, it is a light treatment. It is what they intended.

Red spots created by IPL still present 4 months after my second treatment

ScienceGal2013
I've been trying all sorts of products to lighten the red spots that were caused by IPL, but with limited success. Even tiny areas (like seborrheic keratosis) zapped with the device became larger red dots. I'm very fair, so this is pretty noticeable.
