IPL for Rosacea, Made It Worse, then Better

I was diagnosed with rosacea just 6 months ago and it's rapidly gotten worse. Not much is significantly helping it (oral antibiotics give me GI problems, ivermectin didn't help, propanolol isn't stopping the flushing, mirvaso made me rebound horribly, that stuff is poison, metrogel is the only thing that helped some, it took away the itchy red bumps i was getting) so I decided to try IPL. I did it primarily to try to help flushing, as well as to get rid of a little diffuse redness that has developed now. Another bad decision I guess, because 4 days post I broke out in itchy red bumps all over my face. Metrogel isn't helping to get rid of these now, I'm just getting more and more. On top of that, my baseline skin color is much more red than before the IPL! I felt very sunburnt around my eyes after the procedure for several days, and I still feel somewhat sunburnt 2 weeks post. I had to use burnjel on my face to take the burning away. I didn't blister or anything, which I'm thankful for, but this procedure was not worth it for me. If anything, it made me worse than before. I was supposed to go back for more but that is NOT going to happen.

I feel for ya. I never had papules /pustules rosacea--until I made the mistake of having IPL. I had a few broken capillaries that I wanted dealt with......BIGGEST mistake of my life. I've had a non-stop flare since this past december, when I did a partial round of IPL (Alma Dye-Vl). I had to stop treatments, because the flare-up was out of control. My skin looks and feels worse than ever. I regret it 100%

It really sucks when supposed treatment just makes you worse. Hope your flare up calms down soon, rosacea is the absolute worst.

I've almost gotten rid of mine. I used Aloe Vera Gels (Now Brand) and use Betaine HCL every night. Although i haven't had a flair up since using Aloe Vera Gels, I used a paste of water, borax and 1% hydrogen peroxide directly on my skin which also helped.

Definitely Changed My Mind

So I contacted the place where I had the IPL done and explained what was happening with me, and they had me come in right away. They said that the settings had been pretty aggressive, and my skin didn't tolerate it well because it's sensitive. They said we could lower the settings with subsequent sessions, so I decided to try one more and make my decision from there. I know that you aren't supposed to see results from IPL after just one session, but can I just mention that 2 weeks after the first one, my flushing has abruptly stopped! How is this possible, it feels like a miracle. Maybe because the first treatment was so aggressive, it helped the flushing that quickly? I don't know, and don't really care haha. So I got the second IPL, and plan on doing more. I still broke out in some itchy bumps, as well as some acne, but not as bad as the first time. I didn't swell up worse than when I had my wisdom teeth taken out, like I did with the first IPL, and I also didn't feel like I had been badly sunburnt for days. After this second IPL, my skin is GLOWING. It looks great. I still have diffuse redness, but I'm sure with more treatments that will go away in time. So I think that I have changed my mind about IPL, because I'm down with anything that can get rid of the god awful flushing I was having.

is the flushing is suppressed?? I’m looking to get IPL for the same exact reason!
