Invisalign in 50s - First Two Weeks

Dropped aligner in sink - solution!

Smiledreamer
WORTH IT
I have now dropped an aligner a couple of times in the bathroom sink, which has caused me to change to the next set slightly earlier than planned. Not ideal, particularly if it happened on day 1. Solution: before I hold the aligner over the sink I now line the sink with a disposable antibacterial wipe. Paper towels or tissues could potentially be used if necessary. This may sound paranoid but I don't like the idea of placing something in my mouth which has been in an unhygenic sink.

Another potential solution could be to place a small bowl or kitchen colander in the sink.

First two weeks photo

Here is a photo of my first set of aligners. Although I have lower crowding, only 16 aligners have been planned, which I think is very reasonable. Lower IPR is schedued later in the treatment plan. I am not seeking a movie star smile, just straight, healthy teeth.

I am just about to begin my Invisalign treatment & I too am in my early 50's ... my appointment to get my first set of trays is February 18th.
I had braces in my early teens and like many others, neglected to wear my retainers and my teeth have shifted significantly but despite my dentist's strong suggestions over the last two years, I remained hesitant to take any corrective actions... until I began to pay more attention to the crowding and difficulty getting dental floss between my teeth in multiple areas of my mouth. Not to mention that I have been paying more attention to medical advisements on how dental health ties into a person's overall health.

So KUDOS to you for taking action and I hope you have a very successful treatment and experience minimal discomfort through your Invisalign journey.

Good luck with your treatment. Dental health is certainly important as we age so I regard it as an investment in the future as well as hopefully having a nice smile

Six weeks and going well overall

I had my ortho appointment this week and am now allowed to change aligners every 7 - 10 days. I will decide based on how much wear time I have had. Trying to maintain 22 hours per day unless I have a special event. It's not difficult as I mainly eat at home or nearby. I have had a few coloured drinks pre-dinner, which have not caused any discolouration. Cleaning takes about 10 minutes each time which is slightly annoying but I know it will be worth it. I use vinegar or mouth wash on the aligners. I have had two minor chips to my teeth. Dentists and ortho say this is unusual but I attribute it to the age of my teeth. Discussed with ortho options to pause treatment during holiday in a few months time. Overall pain max 1/10.
