Invisalign- Tray 2, day 6
So I am now a whole week and one day on from my first review. Some things are slowly becoming easier, I’m able to eat most food as long as they’re not too crunchy, I still feel as though I can’t use my front teeth to bite into anything as I worry they’ll fall out, although I’m pretty sure they won’t. I don’t bother taking the trays out at work to eat, so lunch has been near enough non existent... although, I have broken the rules once or twice, I figured that eating plain white boiled rice, swallowing a couple of grains at a time whole wouldn’t interfere in the process and I don’t think it has, I’ve also done the same with plain bread, torn off tiny pieces and swallowed whole, I did really push the boundary’s yesterday buy drinking chicken soup through a straw without taking the retainers out, again, no visible signs of any negative outcome but it won’t be something I’ll be risking all of the time.
When it comes to taking the aligners out, I believe everyone eventually will find their own way to make it as easy as possible, I’ve discovered that using kitchen roll has been a massive help as it absorbs any saliva in my mouth and gets a good grip of the aligners, fingers are too slippy. I also purchased an ‘aligner remover’ from Amazon but quite frankly (personally) it was a waste of money.
I’m also starting to over come the dry lip situation, covering your lips in a light covering of SudoCream each night has been my saviour!! Also keeping my lips hydrated with the Burts Bees ultra conditioning balm.
My main issue currently is the real awful chesty dry cough that I can’t shift. It started within the first day of my process with a sore throat and has now progressed into a cough that is keeping me up at night. I’m keeping dosed up but we shall see what happens with it.
Movement wise, I can feel that they’re moving, due to how tender they feel, especially the wonkier of them. But I can’t quite see any difference yet. I’m moving on to tray 3 tomorrow night, and excited to be moving through this process what feels to be pretty quickly. Just 12 more trays to go!
Tray 3 update to follow!

Invisalign- Tray 1, day 3
Three days ago, I was able to put in my first Invisalign tray... not before having my teeth filled and attachments fitted. I had read up a lot about it before going through the procedure, watching YouTube videos and reading reviews, what I didn’t really grasp was that each Invisalign attachment is incredibly personal and you may well end up with an attachment (or two!) on all or some of your front teeth... much like me. Unfortunately, these aren’t quite ‘invisible’ either. None the less, all part of the process and I am fortunate that I can change my trays every week and have a total of 14 trays to get through.
I was really shocked initially with the way they looked, I had seen so many images and videos of people with the aligners in and I honestly thought that anyone would hardly notice I had them in... I was so wrong. I feel so incredibly self conscious to talk, smile, laugh, anything that means me even remotely having to open my mouth as they’re just so visible. Due to the attachments I’ve also got a constant pout face! My lisp has settled down a little, however the more I try to avoid it the worst it becomes, just try to not stress about it!
The first three days have been incredibly hard, I have an ‘ok’ pain threshold, I managed to power through the filling and scraping of my very sensitive teeth without any numbing injection, but removing these trays can be seriously challenging. Since day one (now on day three) I have not been able to eat anything solid or that requires chewing, in-fact removing my aligners can be so painful that I have been skipping lunch altogether as I don’t want to take 20 minutes out at work to put myself through tear jerking agony, just for some measly soup... it really does feel as though my teeth, especially those with the double attachments, are going to come straight out with the aligners itself. I have read however that this is normal and will settle down... I hope so.
Day three and I can definitely feel when the aligners are out that my teeth have moved, purely because of how much they ache to touch, and albeit hard to eat still, I do feel as though it’s getting fractionally easier to cope with. The attachments make it awfully uncomfortable whilst the aligners are out that I’m desperate to get them back in as soon as I’ve removed them, so 22 hours a day of wear is pretty easy.
The process of removing, eating, brushing, flossing, cleaning, re-inserting is certainly tedious but as long as you carry a little ‘SOS’ pack (mine contains tooth brush, toothpaste (Sensodine repair whitening for me!), floss, mouth wash, paracetamol, ibuprofen, lip balm (because OMG dry, chapped, cracked, peeling, bloody lips!- any suggestions on killer good balms are most appreciated!!), hand sanitiser, bonjella and my trays case) with you, it certainly keeps it more manageable! In fact, once you pick up a little routine it does start to flow a little nicer... but Im still struggling to get my head around brushing my teeth at work and/or public places... again, skipping lunch!
The pros so far... I’ve cut down on snacking, and well, eating enjoyable food all together! And I definitely feel as though my teeth are whiter already, without using any additional whitening products aside from the gentle whitening toothpaste. For now, that’s kind of it!
I’ll keep you updated as I move into my next tray... I do hope that the 2nd tray isn’t a repeat of tray 1!
