Straight teeth at age 66

I'm a 66 yo woman who had braces in my teens. At the time I was not advised that wearing a retainer was a lifelong proposition, so I stopped wearing mine in my thirties. Over the past 10 years my teeth have slipped back to their previous state, leaving me with a crooked smile once again.

Dr. Maria Tugbang has been my dentist for many years. She practises biological dentistry, and I've always been impressed with her expert, compassionate care. She is also a skilled orthodontist, and I had no hesitation about starting Invisalign with her.

I'm now about 18 months into my Invisalign treatment, half way through the second set of trays. The first set was 46 and did the lion's share of the straightening. The second set has 19 trays, and is fine tuning alignment and bite. I do not know if there will be a third set, but if there is, I'm OK with it. This is not a fast process, and I was told it would take 2 years. The most important thing is to get a great result, and I'm very pleased with Dr. Tugbang's work so far.

Part of the treatment included 'osteoperforation', which involves placing tiny pinholes in the jawbone, to encourage faster tooth movement. I was not looking forward to this at all, but the treatment was quick and painless, although I did experience bruising afterwards. I'm now changing trays weekly, which is moving things along nicely.
