Vestibuloplasty for Repair of Deep Sulcus and Lower Lip Descent

Due to infected implant, too big, that causes this...

Due to infected implant, too big, that causes this condition I had 2 procedures done by Dr Barry Eppley, one 2 years ago, second just 2 days ago
This time it was for removing a band of gingiva. Dr said 10mm were removed. Seems that There is a attempt to reconstitute frenulum
2 days after i see that tissues in contact (gengiva and labial mucosa) are not "fusing" in spite of stiches (i have serious doubts about the feasability of this, true that i asked if it was possible to do so, but i'm not MF surgeon to know this) . And i cant see that 10mm height of gingival tissue have disappeared.
I think that a simple vestibuloplasty should have been done. I'm very worried about the outcome...

I forgot the main point : absolutly no gain in lip height has been assessed in spite of gingival band supposed to be removed.

I am sorry for what you are going through. I hope it improves as it heals.

In regards to no improvement in lower lip height, there is another procedure that pulls lower lip up. It is called lower v-y lip lift. It is also done internally, and is a minor procedure.

I know well this procédure, It was actually scheduled for the same day but I had a bad feeling and prefered to postpone it as "last chance" as it is independant .maybe regarding the remaining height of gingiva will repeat for 5 more mm

I had lower v-y lip lift last April and it did pull up my lower lip, but also added volume. I do not know if that is what you want. If you click my name you can see my lip review. I have before and after photos of lower lip lift.

Good luck to you.
November 15, 2014
Thank you. My main concern beeing vertical lenght added can you estimate the gain please?
November 15, 2014
I am not sure. I will need to ask my surgeon how much it pulled up as he took measurements.

Ludovic, I am so sorry for what you are going through. Are you familar with a physician by the name of Guyuron in Ohio or Zide in New York. Zide does not have the greatest personality but he specializes in the type of problem that you have. Guyuron does a surgery to correct the same problem but Zide has really made a name for himself dealing with that problem. Maybe you are familar with them though??? It is not an easy problem to fix, but I am sure you can get some improvement. Don't give up hope.

hello Broke38 , and thank you for the tips. Of course Zide has also been considered first, but here is not exactly a mentalis muscle resuspension as my chin is not sagging .. issue is higher. lip is low due to long vestibule, so I was if this surgery result is stable , considering Dr. Randal Haworth to cut a little more vestibular gengiva and if need make a lip V-Y extension. I want to gain 4mm ...

Thank you for sharing! So, you had a lower lip implant that was infected and you had gum tissue removed because why...? I'm just trying to get my facts straight because I wasn't sure by your write up.

I hope things heal up okay and that you're happy with your results.

Sorry the surgery didn't turn out well for you! Hopefully you'll find a solution. You have very nice looking lips anyways!

Hi Ludovic, I asked my surgeon how much he can raise a lip with lower v-y surgery. He said 2-3 mm. I did not respond sooner because my post op appointment with him was not until today. I did mention to him your situation with chin implant removal and your issue with dropped lower lip. I hope this helps you and I am sorry not to respond sooner. You wrote you may consider Dr Haworth for a consult. I highly recommend him. He did a great job with my surgery and I am very happy with the results. Best wishes for recover for you. I hope your lip heals on its own and you do not need any more surgery, that would be best case scenario.

Hi Anon, I updated . I should have chosen Dr Haworth , obiously. Considering ulterior surgery once healed

some explanations

Ludovic
I got some details about procedure, I understood why I didn't get any lip lift, mucosal part removed from vestibule beeing about equal to what has been removed on labial side. I may have been ok to remove gengival 3mm higher
I'm changing my feedback to "not sure" waiting for real outcomes. For the moment still watching cloely sutures all tissues don't seem to close firmly
Thank you all for your comments

Week 4 - Result ZERO

Ludovic
now week 4. lip level is exactly the same than before surgery
I had a consultation with another local plastic surgeon. I should'nt have do this 7000kms trip
The surgeon here told me that is post-operative result was exactly the same than pre-operative this is the fault of a wrong surgical technics. By tracing incision lines and or measuring one should be able to predict by superposing future borders aspect of lip after suturing. Relapse is something that can happen but post-operative result should have been here for this case of lip repositioning, not a hard case has only mucosal tissue, no deep/muscular layer involved
Obviously this has not been done. Will have to do again the job in 2 monthes time to recover from this useless surgery
Changing to "not worth". that's my definitive (physician and) patient opinion on this Dr Eppley's surgery

Hello, Thanks for your honest review. Were you ever able to get your lip resuspended? I have the same problem and find it interferes with my speech. Thank you. :)

Looking for some information on this as well. Were you able to find a doctor to help with this issue?
