Well I used to have smooth texture and now am living with blotchy skin. I remind you I have never had acne and have always had smooth skin. It's been over a month and I am not liking the results. It's sad how something that takes 15 mins will ruin your face for a lifetime. I'm lost with what to do. Did the laser ruin the fat collogen too? Sad, but luckily I'm trying not to fixate on it, but I can see why it can be depressing.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. I had complications from the fraxel restore laser which is much more aggressive than the clear & brilliant. I was left with open pores and a few little slit lines. Keep your head up as things may improve in the coming months. I wish you healing.

Have you had any improvements? Thank you for your message. What did the doctor do/say about your
unsatisifiwd results? I hope you're healing too. I take baby steps and am glad I didn't go more aggressive.

My doctor blamed the condition of my skin on the cold Chicago weather. I knew she could see what I saw but wasn't willing to admit it was from the laser procedure and kept saying repeatedly "this laser can't scar, it is impossible, it is not strong enough." It was not my intention to go aggressively either, I didn't even know it was going to be aggressive until I was on the table and it felt like a box cutter was being dragged across my face. It was pretty traumatizing but I am taking things day by day to get over the emotional trauma and heal my skin.

I'm really sorry this has happened to you :( my theory on why this happens is that certain areas absorb more of the laser, these areas had more damage to begin with, you probably just couldn't see the damage before because the skin was smooth but it was probably accumulative sun damage acquired over a lifetime. This area of your cheeks is an area that typically cops a lot of sun damage. As the healing takes many months I wouldn't stress too much about it (I know that's easier said than done! my face was destroyed by a laser too!) right now, just nourish yourself and give your body all of the best nutrients so it can do what it needs to repair your skin. The skin of a 45 year old will take longer than the skin of a 20 year old, so try to remain patient and if things haven't improved by the 6 month point then have consultation with a board certified dermatologist and just get their opinion. If they make promises of being able to repair it with some other expensive procedure, say you'll think about - then you go and get another opinion and do your research before committing to anything. Best of luck :) x

Thank you for your feedback. It's great to have feedback. How did the laser destroy your face? Have you seen any progress?

Crazy lines and bumps
Aging1970October 23, 2015
I have never had these type of lines and uneven texture. Does anyone know if this goes away?

Did you have the pits prior to this treatment? The texture may smooth out once inflammation goes down. I used to have some raised lines and bumps too but they have smoothed out now that I have gotten my inflammation under control.

How long did it take for the inflammation to go down? Do you still have any unexpected results or did they diminish with time? I only had the one circle pit (chicken pox scar). Everthing else is new. Thanks for the encouraging words.

My face got inflammed on and off for 4 months. I would flush and burn out of nowhere but that's better now. I also had a waxy texture to my skin; it looked burnt. That's better now too. My texture is still not what it was before the procedure but I believe it is headed in the right direction. It takes a very long time to heal from laser damage but Is believe it is possible to feel confident and happy with your skin again.

Fraxelistheworst, how long did it take for your flushing to go away? 3 weeks after my treatment I started flushing which will last a week then go away a couple of days then come back. It feels like heat is coming from my face and hot to touch. The skin doesn't burn or itch at all it's just heat and a little flushed looking. Is that what yours did?

It took 4 months. I believe I had ongoing inflamation for that whole time period which eventually subsided once I started getting more sleep and treating my body better. My skin did itch but I also could feel heat in my face and when I looked in the mirror I would be beat red.

what has the doctor who treated you said about your skin texture?

Thanks for checking in. I have an apt next week with a different office. A derm on this board commented and said that he has never seen any problems with this mild laser and to see a derm. It's very odd how I have these vertical lines on my face that are not wrinkles and have very uneven texture. I guess it's good that I took before and after pics. BTW - did the doctor ever try to remedy your problem? I'm glad you think your skin is headed in the right direction. I think everyone is right. It def takes time for our skin to heal even with mild procedures.

Unfortunately reactions can happen like this anytime our barrier is compromised and our skin is damaged with the goal of repairing itself. Sometimes there is just more damage than the skin can repair. I know people who have had similar problems from retin a, peels and microdermabrasion. My dermatologist did not offer me any help and was really mean to me when I came in crying about my skin. I have seen many dermatologists in the past 9 months and no one really knows whats to do. Laser damage is pretty common, at least according to the derms I have seen, but none of them really know how to fix it. I definitely suggest giving your skin at least 6 months to heal before you try anything to fix it though.

That's crazy how common laser damage is. Do the derms who told you this work with lasers? Thanks... Way too scared to try anything at this point. Very frightening...

Yes one of the doctors I met with is one of the top laser specialists in the country. He sees a lot of people come on with laser damage yet was not able to tell me why my face was damaged. This was frustrating because I thought a laser expert would be able to shed some light on why I healed poorly. He looked at my skin and said he didn't see any scarring but my pores were much larger than before the procedure. I think this goes to show how unpredictable these devices are even in the right hands.
