Wanted a More Defined/bigger Jaw

UPDATED FROM notsohairy

I think I will pass on the revision

WORTH IT$14,700
I emailed Dr. Eppley about a potential revision and after discussing costs and potential risks, I decided against the procedure...for now. "The biggest enemy of good is perfect" ... I already have a "good" jaw now, so I am not going to risk losing that in order to get "perfect."

Very good bedside manners Free skype consultations Makes you feel very comfortable about the procedure Very responsive with emails... I love that I can chat directly with him instead of the staff On procedure morning I asked him to modify the custom implant by hand because I was scared it would turn out too big, and he did exactly what I asked. He took the time to carve out pieces of the implant in the procedure room Very patient and understanding... I was a headache to deal with when trying to decide on the dimensions of the implant. He never made me feel bad about my concerns or my indecisiveness... I was told I could only have 3 design sessions and I ended up needing a 4th one. He gave it to me which was really nice (I had to pay extra, but this was totally understandable and expected). Spends a lot of time with you to answer your questions even after you already paid the surgery fees (doesn't just answer questions during consultation then leave you hanging after you pay) I'd say he wasn't the best at following up after surgery. He did check in on me once the next morning after the procedure, but never really asked how I was doing or if I needed anything after that...despite the fact that I had undergone the most invasive facial implant procedure...but on the bright side he was always an email away if I had any questions or concerns. I thought I would only have to worry about swelling, limited jaw movement and chance of infection, but I suffered from temporary nerve damage which resulted in an awkward smile for about 6 weeks. This was not a huge deal since it healed on it's own, but it worried me a lot in the moment because I wasn't made aware of this potential risk pre-op.

Hi there. I wondering if you had any before or after pics? or could you email to me privately? I am gonna be having a custom jaw implant with dr eppley in the new year and am trying to get in contact with his patients or patients of his who have had a similar or same procedure i will be having. Thanks x
Yes I can send before and after pics if you send me your email
Sounds like I am in the same boat. I am not sure what an implant will look like on my face. Is there anyway you can email/send me before and after pictures as well, if I provide my email?

Thank you!

hi there. was there a surgeons fee for the revision? or were you just quoted the hospital and anesthesist?
There was a surgeons fee in the quote
Could you upload the implant design?
I’m glad you are happy w your result. As a women I’m also concerned the implant may be too big. I wonder if u have any advice on the design process.

I always had a weak jaw line and finally decided...

I always had a weak jaw line and finally decided to do something about it. At first I was considering injections and I consulted with multiple doctors about this. I was looking for free consultations via skype and I came across Dr. Eppley's website. I went through with the consultation and he strongly insisted that I get a jaw implant instead of injections for the mere fact that it would be permanent. He warned me that the healing process would be very, very long and explained to me how the entire process would work (from 3D CT scan to custom silicone implant to surgery to recovery). I felt comfortable, but still wanted to sit on it for a bit since it was a huge jump from simply getting injections. I decided to do another consultation to get more questions answered and then I decided to go ahead with the procedure. I chose to stay in Indianapolis for a month after the procedure just incase I ran into any complications and needed to see him... luckily nothing bad happened. One month later I left home and was very excited to show everyone my new jaw. Unfortunately, I was very conservative with my jawline dimensions and am now seeking a revision through Dr. Eppley. The results are certainly much better than pre-implant, but not ideal. Now that I know what the implant looks like in my face I am sure I can get it right the second time around by choosing bigger dimensions.
Pros:
My jaw certainly looks better and more masculine
More confidence
Permanent results
Cons:
Long recovery
Visible scars inside mouth
Decent chance you will want a revision if you're a perfectionist because it's very hard to predict what it will actually look like after 100% of the healing

What is the down time? How long does it take for swelling to go away? What are the biggest risks if things go wrong?
50% is gone after 2 weeks
75% at 3 weeks
90% at 4 weeks
and then 100% at about 3months... the remaining 10% after the first 4 weeks is so minimal and unnoticeable that you might fool yourself into thinking it's all gone when it really isn't
Biggest risks are nerve damage and infection... infection would mean removing the implant and waiting 3-4 months to try again. Nerve damage would mean that your smile would look very awkward for a long time ( sometimes permanently, but this is VERY rare if you have an experienced surgeon and this risk is also diminished if you choose the submental approach )... another risk is the implant being too big or too small
Oh and by “it” I am referring to the swelling
`18000 dollars for jaw implants??
The Doctor uses a CT scanner from what I read so they are personalized to fit you. Not like most chin implants where they come in a few sizes and shapes
That's not what I paid. I paid $14,700 USD
I’m moving fwd w this surgery in the coming months. Wondering if u got a wrap around or just jaw implants?
