Jaw Implant Surgery Revision

I had jaw implant surgery a few years ago to improve the balance of my face which needed vertical length rather than any form of projected chin, after the first surgery I discovered to my horror that I had a huge protruding chin which I then had a second surgery to shave away this unnecessary addition to what I had expected, after thousands more dollars in going back to Indiana to have this improved I did notice a positive change, the chin was no longer looking like johnny bravo. However 2 years later I look at the symmetry of my chin/jaw to how it was before surgery and have noticed that is bigger and more protruding on one side and also I have lost the v shape face I used to have is now more of a u shape and makes my whole face more of an oval shape rather than heart shape as it once was, this might be because I didn't have the money I opted for off the shelf implants which were too big for my face, no cat scans or any sizing methods were completed, and maybe that's what you should expect if your not paying top dollar but I had no choice.

I definitely feel I look better than before but I am now going back for a third time to have it shaved down more to hopefully bring back slightly the heart shaped face I once had before surgery and correct the difference in shape of each side.

I am extremely nervous about this third revision, I feel like I have limited knowledge on how this is actually performed whilst keeping the implant in place during surgery, I am also very worried about how the scar will look after surgery, as this will be the third opening of my incision of my scar under my chin which is already quite visible from certain angles,

I am curious and in desperate need of some advice as to whether anyone else has been through this surgery before? Especially the revision? Also has anyone had successful scar revision of a chin implant or jaw implant? What did the scar look like and how long was recovery? If so what procedures were best to remove the scar?

I have a horrible feeling that the scar might appear on my face after this revision rather than slightly hidden under my jaw, the information from dr.E has been very prompt but very basic, I am craving some shared experiences to help me through this traumatic experience!

I will update you on how surgery goes along the way, I am in no way dis regarding DR.e as a good surgeon at this point, I just feel very uninformed and very nervous because it's the third time

Thanks in advance

If it's a shave down you're going in for, I think you'll do just fine. If you're concerned, ask him how it's performed - he should be OK with telling you what he uses. Do you know what size and model the chin implant was? I had a sliding genioplasty and it gave me a chin like the one you describe so I do know where you're coming from. Unfortunately my surgeon wouldn't revise it so I had to go to someone else. And I had been quite prepared to pay for the revision too! I frequently hear of people needing off the shelf jaw implants recontouring. If you have an overall improvement that's good to hear. I think you just need to communicate your objectives very clearly and perhaps write them down so he has a record. Surgeons get many emails a day and oftentimes they will forget certain details. That's something I learned. Good luck!

Thanks for your reply, I have communicated quite clearly and I am going to be there the day before but I was told a 15 minute consultation before was sufficient, maybe it will be maybe I'm being over sensitive but I think when it's your face you need to be, how was your scar after your surgery? Have you looked at any revision methods? I would really like to hear about other peoples experiences with this type of procedure and revision to increase awareness and help people understand more about it. Thanks

hi. i am bothered to hear it didnt was in the right size to begin with. to my opinion this should not happen. i have talked with dr eppley about such procedure myself but i have doubts and you make them worst.
i have found a great surgeon for chin and jaw in vancuver - but you van never know since dr eppley seems good too. but i believe that for jaw it is prefered to go to someone who does mainly that. his name is gerald wittenberg.
i hope you went through a successful third surgery. and if not check gerald out as well.
how was the pain from the surgery ? did he established it with screw to the bone ? this sounds so painful and frightening.

I am very nervous about this doctor because there’s no photos with his reviews and that’s a major red flag. Sorry you went through this and a good doctor would’ve done it right the first time
