InBrace Experience

I had such a great experience with inBrace with Dr. Thao Vu at Bloom Orthodontics! My teeth were my biggest insecurity, but I didn’t want to get adult braces because I was too embarrassed to have braces on my teeth at 28 years old and also didn’t want to get Invisalign because I didn’t want to deal with taking aligners off and on for eating. I had worn braces in high school to straighten my teeth, but because I stopped using my retainers after treatment, my teeth reverted and became crooked again. I stumbled upon inBrace on Instagram and immediately knew I wanted to get the service done because the braces were lingual and no one would know I had them on! I looked on yelp for an office nearby and noticed that Bloom Orthodontics had great reviews and booked an appointment right away! Dr. Thao Vu is very professional, her office is spotless clean, and the staff is super friendly. I went in for a free exam where my teeth were scanned to see if inBrace would be a good option. The doctor let me know that I was a good candidate and that the duration of the treatment would be anywhere from 18 to 24 months. I decided to go forward with the treatment. The whole process wasn’t always easy, but it is 100% worth it! The journey is only difficult in the very beginning. While the placement of brackets on my lower teeth was effortless and easy, the placement on the top teeth were a bit more challenging and uncomfortable. The first week of the inBrace treatment is particularly difficult due to a few adjustments that your mouth has to make in order to get used to the brackets. The biggest difficulty of all is having the metal scraping against your tongue every time you eat or speak which creates painful cuts on each side of the tongue. Also, the space inside the mouth for eating becomes a lot smaller because the metal takes up space. For reference, you can’t place a whole sushi roll inside your mouth and chew comfortably. You will also have a lisp for a week until your tongue gets used to hitting a different part of your mouth to make sounds. However, the discomfort only last for about a week and then you are golden! Eventually, the tongue gets used to the metal inside your mouth and you don’t feel pain anymore! You also get used to taking smaller bites of food and your speech returns back to normal. The pros definitely outweigh the cons! First, you start seeing results right away as your teeth slowly start shifting. Secondly, I could take pictures and feel great about my smile. I also felt confident at work and hanging out with friends because I knew you couldn’t see the braces. Moreover, office visits are easy to fit in to your schedule because they usually take place every 6 weeks and for only 30 minutes. In that time, the doctor makes sure that the teeth are moving the way they should and makes small adjustments if necessary. Towards the end of my treatment, I had attachments placed to two of my teeth so that I could wear rubber bands at night to improve my bite. This helped my smile tremendously, and now my teeth don’t look like they are jetting out. Another huge plus is that you can still floss your teeth due to the wavy nature of the wire, so your gums are able to stay clean and healthy. All in all, the treatment is very effective and I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in fixing their teeth. The first week is rough, but in my opinion, is a small price to pay for having something that is truly “invisible” and not dealing with the inconvenience of taking things in and out for eating. My treatment took a total of 22 months and I am so happy with the results!
