First Post Op Visit 12 Days

Hi, everyone! So I had my first post op office visit today and I have to say, I'm absolutely blown away. My surgeon says I'm doing great, actually amazing, ha! Here are a few stats. At the start of my 2 week pre-op diet I was at my highest ever of 310. On the day of surgery I was 302. Today at my post op visit, it's been 12 days since surgery and I am 283. What!!!???? I lost 17 lbs since surgery! Holy moly! No wonder my pajama bottoms were falling off. I'm due to go back to work in 2 days so that will be an adjustment to get back to, but so nice to get back to my routine. I am however still feeling incredibly wiped out and a bit dizzy. Doc says I need to walk for 30 min 4x a week to start and I need to get more protein shakes and fluids in, all of these in combination is why I'm so tired. All in all, I'm so excited about my success so far! Thanks to everyone for all your support! It is and continues to be uplifting!

wow 17#, I am5 days post op as you know and since surgery I have lost 4.8# you are doing great, happy for you. I too feel weak from not eating, hopefully it will subside soon. went out shopping for about an hour with my husband to pick up a few things and was beat. thought I was going back home and sleep but instead came home watch movie with my husband. luckley I am retired and don't have to. take care of yourself and take it easy at work.
Maryella, that's about where I was at 5 days out. It was after that week my weight plummeted. Good for you getting out for a bit, the fresh air is great. Just don't overdue it. He took off the steri strips and I was surprised that one of the incisions was as large as 2.5 inches. I can't wait to hear about success! When's your post op?
Wednesday is one week. I called nurse today to see what I would need in house to go to phase 2. she said cream soups cottage cheese and by weekend eggs. I was going to see if would be allowed to finely chop up some mushrooms and put in the scrambled eggs. are we allowed catsup? I can't wait to be off of this liquid diet, I feel weak and really hungry, hope the hunger goes away.
Maryella, do you have a chart from your hospital or nutritionist that shows the phases and what you're allowed? Mine is on my fridge and has been my "bible". You could have catsup but you want to watch the acidity. With me it was the juice I was drinking hurting my stomach, even it was 100% juice and it was diluted. I would think no to the mushrooms just because it's still chunks no matter how finely chopped. Even with my cream of mushroom soup, I had to strain that. I was on complete liquids up until today (doc let me transition to mushy 2 days early). I had some mashed potatoes tonight and can you say delish! ? Yes, my jello and I have officially broken up. Lol!
thanks for reminding me about mashed potatoes not a big fan but right know they seem pretty good. they ask me to look in my purple brochure and didn't get one only orange and green. the juice isn't bother me and I am diluting it and adding chips tastes so much better with ice. the nurse told me today that because campbells soup has such small pieces in it I wouldn't have to strain. or puree. what about bean with bacon soup or green pea.
Hi mnpt96 and maryella1. Sounds like both of you are doing great. I am also 12 days out. Went back to work today and am tired. Still trying to get enough fluids in. Not even close. My guess is about 8 lbs. a little disappointed as I have had more exercise then I have had in a long time. Bug I do think I have more energy and I will take whatever loss I can. I will update you after my dr appt on Thursday. It is great to hear we are all on the right track though.
not doing too bad other than missing texture and flavor in my food. then energy thing is doing me in too, but I do have things in my head that I want to get done. all in do time I guess. the fluids are rough it seems like all I do is drink, drink, drink. don't get too disappointed about what weight you "think" you are probably when you go to dr. it will be more than you think. let us know n Thursday, I will be posting on Wednesday. take care.
Kimber, I told my doc today too, I'm literally probably only getting 16 oz of water in a day and that's pushing it. When is your follow up? I was given the ok to exercise today but really don't feel ready yet. I'll start back at the club next week. Don't you dare be disappointed. Everyone's body is different, this is a major thing we've put our bodies through. You will do great! Never compare yourself to others, you are the only YOU. Take it easy at work and keep us posted kimber!
spoken like a smart woman mnpt6,
Wow. Congratulations on your weight loss. Keep doing what you are doing because it works. Wanda Spotsylvania, VA
Congratulations!! Good Luck on your new Journey

48 hrs Post Op

Well, I had my sleeve surgery wed and came home today. I've heard alot of stories that they weren't really in pain, just sore like doing 100 sit ups, and people that felt really good the next day or two and didn't have any gas pains. Unfortunately I'm not one of those stories. My surgeon said my surgery went beautifully, couldn't have been more textbook. But I have been in ALOT of pain since surgery and the gas pain is beyond awful. It's in my left leg, i couldn't lift it in my own, it's in my back, left shoulder and my chest. I woke up at 3 a.m. the day of surgery in so much pain from it, I was in tears, it literally felt like a heart attack. I got to hit my morphine drip every 6 minutes, that was great! I have been able to get down 3 oz the day after and the 2 oz today. 1 oz apple juice, I oz broth and an oz of jello. The juice just sat in my chest like a brick for like 20 seconds then it went away. I'm hoping recovery goes smoothly now that I'm home. I know it will be all worth it in the end, it's just a bit rougher than I was expecting. I am still very happy and excited that this is now day 3 of my new life!!

sorry to hear you had so much pain. at least you had the morphine and your beri bear to keep you comfy. hope tomorrow is better.
And a healthy life it will be. I hope your pains passes quickly, we are all different.
Zen lady, how are you feeling?
mnpt96 - Saturday night here and it's been 2.5 days since my Thursday morning op and I feel brilliant. I'm safe at home and very relaxed. No pain, just a little wind discomfort but passes quickly (TMI). Easy to get required liquids in so far, sipping continuously to be sure I don't dehydrate, but it's really easy to get in. I'll have some Miso soup for dinner with a sugar free ice block for dessert. No appetite at all, love this sleeve (so far)!
Zen what is miso soup?
Zen, I'm soooo happy you're doing so well! Regarding your tmi...I haven't been able to do that yet and it literally takes me 30 min to pee. Every time I take a sip of any liquid it just sits in my chest. I'm still praying for you for continued smooth sailing and a great recovery! I can't wait to follow your success!!
They did this neat thing in the hospital to help me pee because I was having problems too. The put some spearmint scent in the bathroom with the water trickling and after a few I peed 400cc. And have been going fine since
Oh one more thing. Like I am a pro at this or something. The dr. gave me a script for Reglan and that seems to take away nausea and keeps things moving down instead of sitting there.
It's Japenese, tofu, mushroom, sprouts and 'stuff' I strain it, it was on the list of allowed. I may never have it again, but it's a meal for now.
Mnpt96, Really? Maybe he forgot to remove mine? I'm sitting sipping peppermint tea to help that wind's journey along, but it does quite well without it. I have sipped through a large tea cup full, yes, sipped but continuously, and there is not chest sitting at all. It's day 3 for me, I can sleep on my side, either of them, and got up and showered, dressed in jeans and t-shirt, threw a load in the dishwasher, made my peppermint tea and now resting again, until I make a second cup. Quite a refreshing drink. I pee with regularity and without pain. All my cuts, including where the drain was, have closed over and dressings are off them so they dry and breath. So far the most discomfort I had was the slow removal of the drain tube. I weighed myself this morning, and I'm 92.6 kilos (203.7 lbs) and pre op morning I was 94.2 (207.2 lbs) so a slight loss of 3.5 lbs but I know it will grow and grow like Jack and the Beanstalk!
small sips will help that problem I would keep forgeting now when I sip too much I keep it in my mouth slowly swallow it lol
Thanks Donnamaria, I'm being really cautious to take little sips. It's something that really takes getting used to. I was a big time "gulper"
To all post sleevers....how do I get rid of this gas, it's horrible! After surgery it was in my shoulder, leg, back and chest. Now it's only in my back and tummy and the burning, gurgling and cramping is literally every other minute. Suggestions? Kimber, I think you said you're taking Reglan??
Sipping warm peppermint tea helped me...
Yes ask for the Reglan. What are I drinking? They say u can become lactose intolerant and if u are drinking dairy it could be making it worse.

2 more days

I got my surgery time for Wednesday. Surgery is at 7:30 and I have to be at the hospital at 5:30. I haven't been nervous at all during this whole process but it hit me this morning. Yep...I'm nervous. Any suggestions from post sleeves on what to bring to the hospital? My surgeon says I'll be there til friday.

will be thinking of you and keep you in my prayers. I finished my testing today and will call dr tomorrow and see if he can give me a date.
That's awesome, hopefully it won't be too long for you! And thank you for the prayers, they're always welcome, my friend.
it's so nice to have all of this support on here and have so many friends. and to think none of us have ever met.
Hello I am scheduled for my surgery on November 17th. I was a little nervous but excited at the same time. I start my liquids on November 5th. Good luck with your surgery.
congrats on getting you date. when did you start going to the dr. for having the surgery? are you having the sling? i am having my surgery next Wednesday the 29th. i also am excited and nervous .
Maryella, it's wonderful, I've become very good friends with some people on here! Wouldn't it be fun if we all met one day!
I was thinking the same thing last night, how nice it would be to get together. maybe we could work it out somehow. wouldn't it be something!
Sounds like a sleeves shindig may be in order one of these months!
Maryella, glad you got your date. You like this dr? I had the sleeve. I had my first consult with my surgeon September 5th and had surgery Wed Oct 22nd. Everything went really quick for me.
I like that "sleeve shindig" sounds nice. we aren't really to far from one another Illinois to Pittsburgh, pa.
yes I do like this dr better. I had my first consult with himlast Thursday a week ago so I guess it'll be about 13 days. not too bad.
I started my nutritionist in January and to my surgeon. I changed surgeons because of a issue with him not having a hospital to perform at and that made me investigate further and I'm glad I did. So now I am happy with my new surgeon and I completed all my test so now I have my date for November 17th.
I'm getting the sleeve
Natasha, that's very suspicious your dr didn't have a hospital to do surgery at. You have to feel 100% comfortable With your surgeon. Good luck to you and keep me posted! I'd love to follow your success!
Well basically he did at one point but he was going through something but I didn't like the vibe I was getting so I switched and I'm very comfortable with the surgeon I have now and thanks and best of luck with you as well...
Yes that is suspicious . Check him out online!!!
