45 Year Old Breast Reduction & Bra Bulge & Flank Liposuction. Hyannis, MA

WORTH IT
I was medication for about 10 years that caused me to gain over 30 pounds, before the medication I was a large C/small D cup. I also had accumulated a decent amount of fat on my back and flanks/hips. The large breast caused a significant amount of pain in my upper back, it was difficult to workout (running, jumping, etc) and it was hard to find bra and tops/dresses that fit properly. I always felt that my boobs were the first thing to appear in a room...haha. I went off the medication about 3 years ago and lost most of the weight but my breasts didn't change at all. I really wanted to have lipo on my stomach as well but we decided that would be too much all at once, plus the doctor things I may need a tummy tuck since I lost so much weight my skin elasticity isn't great. I had wanted a breast reduction for a few years now but was in at LT relationship and he loved "big boobs", that relationship recently ended so I decided it was time to do something for myself.
My breast reduction was actually covered by insurance as it was deemed medically necessary so I only paid for the Liposuction which was $4844 and included the anesthesia and facility fees as well as the compression garments. NOTE: I received a discount because I had multiple procedures (breast reduction and Lipo) so the cost without that discount was $6747. This is higher than Sono Bello or other Laser/Lipo Centers (which were about $4500) but the doctors in those places are typically NOT board certified plastic surgeons like Dr. Loffredo, in this instance I believe you get what you pay for.
My surgery was about 5 hours for both procedures, I stayed in the hospital overnight which was good because I got really sick from the Anesthesia. I wasn't released until 5PM the next day once I was finally able to eat and keep fluids down. I had 3 drains, 2 were removed 3 days after the surgery (for the breast) and the finally one was removed 10 days after surgery (for my back). They were kind-of gross but small and not really that uncomfortable. My pain was mostly in my back and hips, my breasts really weren't too bad, they hurt more toward the end of week 2 and anytime I went over a bump in the car. I took pain medication for about 7 days and then Tylenol for another week or so. I am wearing compression bra (like a sport bar) for 6 weeks and had clear tape like stuff over my incisions for 4 weeks. Now I have no more tape and just scar cream. I also have a binder that I wear around my waist/back, I wore that all the time for 3 weeks and then 12 hours (days) for another week. The Dr. said I could keep wearing the compressing garment the 12 hours for another 2 weeks or I could move to Spandex for that area if I wanted, so I might check that out over the weekend.
I took a total of 13 full days (weekdays) off of work and then worked a couple hour from home for 4 days to catch up on emails, etc. before returning to work full-time, so I was out of the office for 17 workdays. Because my breast reduction was deemed medically necessary and covered by insurance so I was able to get short-term disability and only used 7 PTO days and received 75% of my pay for the remaining 10 days (I still have 18 PTO days remaining just in case...or for my tummy tuck haha).
Results: I definitely feel lighter and my back pain is already significantly reduced and I am sure that will get increasing better as the healing process continues and I can work out again. They say it takes 3 to 6 months for the swelling to go down and to get the finally appearance but I am happy with how things are thus far. It is really hard to see my own back (will try and take pictures this weekend and post them) but everyone (sisters, nurses and Dr. who have seen me almost naked) says both my back and breast look great! I am sure once I can wear a normal bra and no compression garment around my waist it will be easier to tell, especially once I am wearing my normal clothes and see how they fit after these procedures (I mostly am wearing legging, sweats and over-sized sweater and shirts now). Also, I think you are used to your reflection in the mirror it takes a little while to how much has changed. The one thing I have seen is that the smaller breasts make my tummy more noticeable...ugh. I actually have an appointment the end of May (in 2 months) with Dr. Loffredo for a follow-up on these two procedures and consultation on my tummy (Lipo, Tummy Tuck or maybe both).
As I said I will try and post some photo as of 4 weeks after procedures and get more information on the cost of the breast reduction.
