Some background on my skin: I have suffered from...

Some background on my skin: I have suffered from acne since I was 18. Now at 25, I have managed to get most of my active spots under control, but I was left with severe hyperpigmentation. When I say severe, I mean I had spots of red and brown literally all over my forehead, cheeks, and chin. I consulted with a dermatologist prior to doing anything to hear what they'd recommend. My dr actually suggested Accutane because my pigmentation made it look like I had cysts when I really didn't (yes, my discoloration was that severe). I was very hesitant to do accutane knowing the side effects, so I did research and came across the Vi Peel. It seemed ideal since it was intended for all skin types.

I visited two medi spas in my area and had consultations at both. I decided to go with the more reasonably priced option and the esthetician who actually listened to what I wanted. I had the Vi Precision Plus peel done on 8/23/17, since it specifically focused on fixing pigmentation issues (it includes retinol and vitamin c, so it encourages cell turnover and collagen production).

My face was cleansed and acetone was applied prior to the peel to get rid of oils and dirt. A word of advice: the acetone smells awful, so ask for a fan. The peel solution was next, and for me it stung going on, especially on the chin. Granted, my skin was sensitized from products I had tried, so it didn't help with the sensation. If it gets to be too much, definitely ask your esthetician to stop applying product on that particular spot/area, since it shouldn't burn/sting that bad. They apply a whole bottle's worth of solution, so about three layers of peel on the face. I was instructed to leave the solution on for 4 hours, since it self neutralized, and then wash it off. They gave me care instructions and included a kit (3 towelettes, cleanser, post peel protectant, spf). I had stinging for about 2 hours post-peel, and then my skin just felt super tight/dry and looked red. I washed off the solution, and after I showered I used the first towelette. Advice: the towelette stung more than the peel, and it smells strong-hold your breath while using it.

Day two: the redness lessened but my skin was tight! It was hard to move my face. Also, my spots looked darker than before. I actually started to peel on night 2, but it was on my chin, where I had had the most sensitivity to the solution. Let the skin shed on its own-DO NOT PULL AT THE LOOSE SKIN!!! It can make your issues worse if you force the skin loose when it's not ready to peel. Used the second towelette.

Day three: definitely peeling in the center of my face (nose/mouth area). The new skin may feel a little itchy and the post-peel protectant may sting the fresh skin. Get some aquaphor if it stings too much, and use it to help reduce the stinging sensation-but don't overuse, since it can occlude your pores and clog them. Used the final towelette (be careful of rubbing too hard on that loose skin).

Day four: peeling spread to my cheeks and forehead. I was shedding a lot of skin, and the new skin looked lighter than before.

Day five: I was pretty much done peeling except for some spots on my forehead/cheeks.

Day six: peel was complete. No more shedding! Overall, my skin looked definitely lighter. I still had pigmentation, but it wasn't as bad as before. Don't expect a miracle if your skin was as bad as mine, since I'll likely need another peel to truly get rid of everything.

Would I do it again? Maybe. It was mentally and emotionally hard for me personally just because I was so nervous for the outcome and the process definitely requires at least 4 days downtime minimum. But I can say it has helped my skin tremendously, to the point that my products now seem to work better on my face. I feel like I have hit a reset button with my skin and the peel has given it a second chance at life.

BUT, I would NOT recommend this for people with minor skin issues. This peel is no joke, so if your skin isn't that bad, please try other avenues before resorting to this, as it is a difficult process to get through, and it might exacerbate your problems in some cases. Otherwise, I would definitely recommend this peel to anyone who truly wants a transformation.
