WORTH IT
My last trip to my PCP was so eye opening. I was told my weight put me in the category of morbidly obese. I had no idea how far out of control I was. Now I am ready to start my life and live again. I am tired of being tired! I walk to my truck to fast and I am short of breath. This surgery is a must for me. I have tried every diet and gym only to fail. I was told the surgery is only a tool......hope I can conquer this one!!

Surgery went well all test came back normal and I was released the day after. Most of my pain was from gas and what feels like bruising. Also it felt like I did a million sit ups. Now a week later and I have little to no pain, unless I move wrong or stretch too much. So happy I made this choice! 10 pounds gone forever and they are not coming back!! Still hard getting all my fluids in but I am halfway there.

Hello, I'm a few weeks away for submitting my lap band request to the insurance company, but I'm having trouble finding a pcp who will write the medical necessity letter. My pcp does not believe in weight loss surgery. Any suggestions would be appreciated, I'm located in Houston.

What insurance do you have? I have United Healthcare and the only requirement was my BMI be 40 or above. You can call your insurance company and ask them what requirements you have. Also whatever surgeon you choose should be able to help with all that stuff to. Hope this helps!!

Cigna insurance, I called and it's a requirement. I asked the surgeon but he is not able to recommend any pcps. I had to have nutritionist visits for 4 months ( I'm on my last visit) and bmi 40+.

Just keep trying don't give up, there has to be a way! Sorry I could not be of more help to you. Maybe there is someone else on this site who would have more experience with this and recommend something. Keep me posted on your process please :)

Hello thanks for checking in on me. Yes I found a PCP to write the letter. Next Friday is my last required visit before everything is sent to my insurance. So excited can't wait to find out my surgery date. I decided to go for lap band. Which surgery did you have and congrats!

I had the sleeve. I wanted something permanent. I felt that was my best option. I have a family member that had the sleeve as well and she has done amazing! So I hope to follow in her footsteps. And yay for you....hopefully they will get back to you rather quickly, mine took about 2 weeks. I know it can take longer but I feel I was lucky.

I was told it could take up to 30 days. I wanted the sleeve but I've heard horror stories of people gaining the weight back and also excess skin because of the fast weight loss. Did you have any of those problems. Really I'm still undecided

I will have some extra skin but mine is not too bad really, it will be more lose than extra. So many factors could come in play for the extra skin. As far as gaining the weight back of course you can gain some back after many years. I think in those cases people may over eat and stretch out there stomach slightly and choose the wrong foods. I can tell you my family member has not gained back any weight. She does eat the wrong things sometimes but in moderation. She always tells me it's about portion control and eating protein first to make you feel full faster. That way when u get to the chip or dessert then u can only fit a couple bites in. Believe me I am scared to death of how I will control my emotional eating when I can eat a little more but I have to remember where I was and how bad I felt and I never want to go back there!!
