I'm 29, married with 3 kids, I'm 5'4" at my heaviest weight I was 260 this is over 50% of what I normally weighed even after having 2 kids. For some reason after I had my last child I wasn't able to loose weight in fact I kept gaining and gaining. All my family is morbidly obese in fact I had an uncle who was almost 900 lbs. I don't want to live this way any more, I want to be able to be healthy and enjoy life with my kids.
This whole process has gone faster than I ever Imagined. I had my initial appointment on March 04 2016 and was required to have an EGD, Blood work, and a physiatrist approval, and a nutritionist appointment ($50). After all that was said and done I got a call on 04/19 that I was approved and we set a date. I started my 2 week liquid preop diet on 04/20. Whoa what an adjustment, the first 4 days were horrible but now as I get closer to my sd it gets easier! I started at 260 and now I am at 249, 2 days before my surgery. I've lose 11 lbs just on the liquid diet. My surgery date is 05/04 exactly 2 months from my initial visit. I'm very blessed that my insurance has covered it and between doctor appointments and parking fees my total OOP is under $700. That of course doesn't include the cost of the preop diet or any bariatric vitamins I will have to buy. I will update any progress I make, and let you know how the surgery goes!

Just aim to get back into your usual routine quickly and make use of this chance to create a fresh new start. Eat healthier foods, begin exercising to keep in shape, and end smoking if you smoke.

Surgery today so much pain
DD522May 5, 2016
Had surgery today at about 12. Staying over night but hoping for 2 if pain does subside. My blood pressure is getting higher now it's 150/93, so I might need medicine to get it under control. When I woke up in the recovery room I didn't know we're I was but I was in pain and I screamed at them to cancel the surgery. The nursed laughed and says oh sweetie it's already done. ????????

Wow, rough awakening! I hope the pain is subsiding. My blood pressure went up after surgery as well. By 3 days post, it was back down. I was given BP meds once. Take care.

Congratulations. I myself am 6 weeks and 2 days out. I had the same problem upon waking up. I had to have bp meds every few hours for the full 3 days I was in hospital. It was from the pain they said. You'll be fine and do great I'm sure. The pounds will start melting away and you'll be able to eat normally soon. Again, congratulations on your new beginning.

I've been home for 3 days now

Stayed overnight in the Hospital on Wednesday but they sent me home on Thursday. Once they gave me pain medicine my blood pressure dropped. I've been walking around a taking sips of water often. But there is no way I'm near the 48-64 oz of fluids they recommend. I tried chicken broth, jello, sf popsicles but nothing is agreeing with me. As soon as I eat something my stomach hurts. Today I tried some of the GNC lean 25 protein shakes and I drank about an ounce and that was it. I'm worried about getting dehydrated since I'm not getting fluids down like I should. I've also still been in quite a bit of pain, although I have been walking around. I have also taken gas-x and milk of magnesia (yuck) to try to get rid of some of the gas pain and the feeling of constipation (TMI I know). I'm ready to start feeling normal again, how long did it take you to start feeling better? And how do I get some fluids down without feeling like crap?

It does get better. The time in which it does varies for everyone. A good way to push liquids down is to set a timer on your phone for 15 min. When it goes off drink down 1 oz (hopefully you have the 1oz medicine cups) and reset the timer and keep the rotation going. I'm 3 months post op and it took me about 2 weeks to not be in pain. Some random days after that it would still bother me in certain places. For others they never took pain meds once leaving the hospital so everything is individual. You will have to try lots of different things and flavors in the beginning to see what works well for you and can tolerate. Just keep pushing, you'll get there! Also, stay with the milk of mag as long as your taking pain meds especially because constipation can become the worst.
