I've had gyno for over 16 years, and tried...

I've had gyno for over 16 years, and tried everything from strict dieting to lifting weights to rid of it for years to no avail. I had learned to hide the gyno by having stooped-shoulder posture, always wearing shirts one size bigger and in darker colors, and making fake excuses to not socialize or participate in activities that involved taking my shirt off.

Eventually, this self-conscious behavior was creeping into almost every aspect of my life until it dawned on me one day that the cause of all this wasn't going to go away unless I asked for help. I researched extensively on the various surgeries and surgeons in Houston, and I made the appointment with Dr Boynton because I was very impressed with the quality of his results on Real Self, and I felt his minimally invasive pull thru method was the best option for me in terms of easy recovery and overall results (I couldn't have been more right about this).

At the consultation, he answered all my questions honestly and did not try to sugarcoat or promise something he couldn't deliver, which made him trustworthy in my book, so I scheduled the surgery for two weeks later. Also, Karen, the coordinator, helped arrange caregiving service for my day of operation for rides, discharge and etc, since my family was doesn't reside in Houston and I was going thru it alone.

I was very anxious leading up to the surgery day, but my work on the days before and the caregiver on the day of surgery kept me preoccupied. The surgery was done at a name brand outpatient surgery center with an actual MD anesthesiologist supervising the procedure instead of just a nurse anesthetist, which quelled my concerns regarding going under general anesthesia for the first time. In the pre-op, the Dr Boynton reassured me, marked me and said drains may be placed for a day. It was the second procedure for the day (I rationalized it as the surgeon had warmed up for the main event, ha ha), and the whole lipo and gland removal on both sides took about 1 to 1.5 hours, and I woke up fully clothed with bandages snugging around my chest and one drain from each side of chest with little pink fluid in them. After the procedure, I had some discomfort at around 9 pm (procedure was at 8:30 am) at 2 out of 10 scale, so I took one benzo and one pain pill to go to sleep. Thru out the healing process since then, there hasn't been any real discomfort other than some or pinch occasionally at the holes ( one 2 mm at bottom of each areaola sowed up and under each arm pit closed on their own), so I didn't need to take any pills other than the antibiotics (not even tylenol) after that. Next morning, I drove myself to the follow up, and was anxious to see the results. The bandage was taken off, and the my results far exceeded what I had hoped for; my chest was flat, the areolas were smaller and before I could even process all this, the drains were pulled out (they didn't suck out anymore fluid since I first noticed after surgery, so it was a precaution more than anything I think). I was given the vest to wear and other instructions and follow up appointment.

The amazing thing about this process is how painless and easy the preop process, the surgery and the recovery has been. There is minimal swelling and bruising, which I am sure will resolve in month or so. Its been week since surgery and I have to wear the vest continuously, except when showering or washing it, for two more weeks, and wear it at night for 3 weeks after that. I can easily hide the vest under button down shirts, so that is not a problem, and I was cleared at follow up today to begin working out in a week.

If you are living with gyno, don't waste your time trying to deal with it by yourself like I did. Ask for help. My only regret is that I should have done this a decade sooner. If you live in Houston, Dr Boynton, nurse Sandy, patient coordinator Karen, and Caitlyn are an amazing team to work with and you would be best hands under their care. I want to give a special shout-out to Nurse Sandy for answering any concerns I have promptly over the phone or by email and for all her advice my recovery so far.

Dr Boynton is friendly and trustworthy in demeanor. He surrounds himself with a great team that make you feel like we are all working towards a common goal. I also admire that he has such an artistic eye, where his results follow great symmetry and are very natural looking (he didn't overdo the gland excision and lipo to prevent cratering and other problems as in my case which speaks of his exceptional artistic judgement). He is also extensively trained (in like general surgery, hand surgery, and microsurgery in addition to plastic surgery , per his brochure), so I felt very comfortable and at ease about his capabilities from the get go. Overall, he gets my 100% recommendation.
