I have my vision back! I had my procedure done on February 5th, 2016! It's been nearly three months since my operation and my vision has been only getting better!

First off, I had bad vision--B A D. Nearly -8.00 in both eyes with astigmatism. I've been wearing glasses since 3rd grade, contacts since 9th grade and before my 28th birthday, I decided it was time to get my vision back.

Here's a breakdown of what you can expect:

Consultation!

1. Be welcomed by their staff, take a small tour and learn about their facility

2. Partake in some easy eye exams, discuss your eye history with their specialists

3. Watch a video that talks about what you can expect from Joffe, general Q&A's, operation day and post-operation procedures (You're in massage chair during this!)

4. Discuss options and additional benefits with their financial coordinators to make the best choice! (Credit is available--you can ask about it!)

5. Schedule your operation date!!!

Operation day!

1. Check-in, process your payment and get informed about how and when to use your prescription eye drops

2. Have your eyes examined, Dr. Su is the sweetest!

3. Relax in their massage chair, have the OPTION to take valium before the operation

4. Laser time! Dr. Kevin Merkley is a pro. Rest assured, you have the best hands around your eyes. Dr. Merkley and his team will talk you through the entire procedure--it only lasts for 10 minutes!

5. You'll be given tinted eye glasses to wear for protection and comfort. At this point you'll be wanting to use the artificial tears they provide. Get home safely by your designated driver!

6. Once the numbing eye drops begin to wear, you may feel discomfort and pain--keep your eyes lubricated and use those artificial tears! The faster you can get to sleep, the better!

Next day!

1. Wake up and see clearly without any aid of contacts of glasses!

2. At this point you could drive back to Joffe for your post-check up eye exam. But feel free to ride along with a designated driver.

3. Acing your eye exam without any aid of glasses and contacts will make your day.

4. Keep up with your eye drops routine and just schedule for your next eye examination--congratulations, you have your vision back!

Final thoughts!

If you are considering this, it's likely that you're the perfect candidate. Many of us after having LASIK with Joffe has vision greater than 20/20. It's so much nicer to wake up and see the world. Play sports without worrying about my glasses or contacts. I am no longer squinting and I can finally wear sunglasses without contacts.

Feel free to message me anytime with any questions or concerns.

Best of luck! :)

Dr. Kevin Merkley and his team is excellent. They answered all my questions and concerns. I was informed on what to expect day-before, day-of, and day-after operation. They're all very friendly and knowledgeable. Overall you get more of a family vibe with the staff than what you could expect at your traditional doctor clinic. I've recommended Joffe MediCenter in Houston to my friends and family.

Charles,

Great to hear how much your eyes were corrected and how happy you are with Lasik. I also recently had lasik about 3 days ago and although my vision seems great, I am having issues. 1) I am pretty dry and when can I expect to not need the tears to go about my regular day? 2) I fluctuate with my vision, see 20/20 on some things but blurry with others. Will that get better as time goes by? Lastly, I can see a little better in my right eye right now than my left. Don't know if that is because lasik is healing quicker in my right eye? Did you have an issues like that? thanks

Hi Mike,

1. Dryness in the eyes was definitely a pain for me after the operation. I think I was using the artificial tears for until I ran out, maybe 1-2 weeks.

2. Did you meet with your optometrist yet? I was scheduled to meet with mine the very next morning after date of my operation. I felt like there was some differences between my left and right eye as well but any blurriness would eventually go away and my vision for both eyes improved over time. I suggest you consult with your doctor for their feedback on your healing!

Last thing, it's been a year and half for me now since having LASIK. I have not gotten an eye test yet but I'm curious to see if my vision has altered any since. Not a priority for me because I feel like my vision is 20/20 but I'm curious to know.

Hey Charlie,

Yes, I did talk with my optometrist the day after surgery and she seemed to think everything looked good but was still swollen being I was just one day out. I also called the place I had it done and spoke to the guy who was seeing me. He said after Lasik it can take anywhere to 3-6 months for the eye to fully heal and eyes to stabilize. I know I'm being impatient but, I guess thats just because its your eyes!!

Good to know that the blurriness goes away. I feel a lot of that is from the dryness itself and the medication you use for the first couple days dry you out. well thanks for sharing your experience with me, appreciate it

Good to hear! Keep your eyes lubricated and you should have a speedy recovery. And hope you can pay it forward and share your experience with others too!

How long did it take for dryness in eyes to go away to the point where you just felt like it was your regular eyes before lasik?

Mikey,

I'd say 2-3 weeks and I was off lubricating eye drops completely. Artificial tears really are the good stuff. Can't remember which brand I used.

It's been a week since mine and my eyes are so hazy and I have trouble focusing. I hope this goes away. I'm scared I made a mistake
