Laser Hair Removal is for African Americans Too! - Houston, TX

I cannot say enough about how amazing this process...

WORTH IT$1,250
I cannot say enough about how amazing this process has been. I began laser hair removal in Feb 2015. I have had Appointments in Feb, April, May & July approximately 6-7 weeks apart. I have two more to go (Scheduled for Aug and Oct). I prepaid for 5sessions and I will receive a 6th one free.

I chose to do my chin, upper lip, and arm pits. I had developed excess facial hair as a side effect from many years on birth control ( I grew a full on goatee after 6years on mirena. Not cute at all.) I had had several consultations from other practioners who wanted to put me on systemic medication (spirolactone) or use creams (vaniqua) to diminish the hair growth; neither of which is a permanent solution to my hairy predicament. One MedSpa wanted me to use hydroquinone twice daily for 3-4months to decrease the risk of hyperpigmentation (no thank you, I don't want discolored grey thin skin). I contacted Mirror Mirror in Houston, TX who assured me that they could help me manage my problem with laser for a lasting solution. They educated me well about the process and what to expect. I actually live in San Antonio, TX and make the drive to Houston, TX ( 3.5hours each way) for every appointment. It's well worth the drive.

The process is quick, it takes about 35min to treat both areas. I'm treated with a numbing cream for 20minutes, then once I'm good and numb out comes the laser. About 15minutes to treat my former goatee and pits. I'm provided an ice pack to keep on my face for 10-15m ( I actually switch to ice that I keep on my face for about 25-30min), which diminishes the chance of pigmentation changes. I have had NO problems with skin color changes or scarring.

I can tell a huge difference in the hair growth. My upper lip has no noticiable growth at this time. The under portion of my no longer has hair growth. The hair on the front of my chin has diminished... There are about 10 hairs total remaining to be zapped. The armpit hair is sparse and patchy. I barely need to shave anymore. I have these odd remaining patches that grow very slowly. I shave maybe once a month.
There is a period, about 7-10days after the laser appointment, where my face and pits get super itchy. It's that hair falling out, never to return.

I wish I had done this so much earlier. I just didn't know that there were good options for African Americans. I could not be happier that I met Sharon at Mirror Mirror in Houston. I cannot express how satisfied I am with the procedure, the results, and the service.

Sharon Tran-Steele was my practioner at Mirror Mirror. I sing her praises. She is attentive, very kind, easy to communicate with, and she knows her product(s). I have had no issues under her care and I would send anyone and everyone I know to her.

Hey I'm in ohio i have pcso nd it's cause to have facial hair nd so on i just got one Don last Friday the 31st of July can yu shave cause hair is growing back I'm in habits plucking the hair is that bad thing

I don't pluck. I never have, I find it painful. Previously I would shave daily or use Nair weekly. I can only shave the remnant hairs while I'm undergoing treatment. Plucking may remove the follicle, which needs to be present if it is going to be zapped by the laser, in order to kill it permanently. From what I understand, if you pluck while undergoing treatment, you basically will be wasting your money and the hair that you plucked will grow back.

Hi which laser are you using I am AA and don't know which laser would be best

Cutera CoolGlide. I haven't had any issues with darkening and I have had excellent results.
I've had 6 sessions with about 80% reduction. I'm going to do 2-3more. I have no more hair on the upper lip. Very sparse hair under my chin and armpits now.

I think a lot has to do with the aesthetician's skill. I live in San Antonio which has a large Hispanic population. I thought they I might find someone nearby who was used to working on people of my color. I had several consultations in San Antonio, but I was either told laser isn't for dark skin and to use a prescription cream, or to use hydroquinone (skin lightening cream, think the late great Michael Jackson) for 3-4months before trying laser. I decided look for a place Houston which has a large African American population. That's how I found Sharon at Mirror Mirror. No worries or problems with her manning the laser.
