I've been wearing glasses since fourth grade and contacts since I was fifteen. After wearing contacts for eight years I couldn't stand the dry eyes and fluctuating bothersome of having plastic on top of my eyeball. My eyesight got worse each and every year. I finally decided to ditch both and get Lasik done.

I searched for doctors in my area on Realself and Yelp untill I stumbled upon Joffe Medicenter on Yelp (they tend to have more reviews for surgeons in my area). After reading great reviews and seeing how affordable they are, I called and made an appointment for a free consultation.

On consultation day, I met with the most precious friendliest staff imaginable; they seriously make you feel right at home. Once my name was called, I went through an eye exam to see if I was a candidate for lasik and certainly I was! After the exam the staff tells you to watch a short video in order to decide which Laser/flap method you prefer. I watched the video on the different types of laser procedures (ex: Prk, Lasek, Lasik) and how the flap was made. One method, which is slightly higher priced, was the “newer” laser (can't remember the name) where the laser machine computes the circumference of your pupil and makes the incision for the flap. The other method was having the doctor cut the incision manually then having the laser do the rest. The laser used is called the Allegretto Wave. For some odd reason I felt more comfortable having the doctor do it manually.

After the video I spoke with the business/schedule coordinator. She asked which method I felt comfortable with, how I was paying for the procedure and which date was most convenient for surgery. I chose the Allegretto Wave (as mentioned above), I did save for the procedure so I paid effectively (they are very considerate and offer financing if needed) and finally I set my date for the next surgery day available, which was in 8 days. Then the coordinator gave me instructions to follow prior to the procedure.

When my surgery day arrived I was excited and nervous at the same time. Once at the clinic, I signed paper work then off I went to the surgical room. If you are nervous you can request a tranquilizer pill. The doctor numbed my eyeballs with numbing solution; then they put a tool to keep the eyes open during the procedure. The procedure isn’t too painful- it only feels like someone is pinching you but in your eyeball- that’s something to smile about ;). It took the doctor about 15minutes to complete everything. And BAM I was done!

Once they double-checked my eyes, they gave me a pair of Joffe Sunglasses and follow up instructions. I followed the after-care instructions for a smooth recovery.

Overall, I’m happy with the outcome, I almost have 20/20 vision. Vision does fluctuate the first couple of weeks but other than that there’s no serious complications. Thank the Lord.
Compared to how my blurry vision was “I CAN SEE CLEARLY NOW THE RAIN IS GONE!”(Singing the tune in my head) hahaha! It was Definitely worth it.

Welcome to the community, I am so glad to hear everything went well for you. Was the laser device that you're unsure about called Intralase?

That might be it
Did you get in done in Houston or Salt Lake City? If Houston what's the name of the Dr.?
Houston downtown area. The doctor is Kevin Merkley and the clinic is called Joffee Medicenter.
Ok. Thanks for your reply
How much did you pay? I’m seriously considering this.
