20 F Chin Reduction, Dr. Vitenas, Houston, Tx

UPDATED FROM crr123
5 months post

Scar 4 1/2 months post op

WORTH IT$6,610
Here is a picture of the scar. It's finally begun to lay flat (it was bumpy at the beginning) and the color is fading. Dr. Vitenas said it would take 1 year to fully heal. It is about 1 1/2 inches long and is invisible with concealer. It is not noticeable unless I tilt my head back. There has been no "sagging" because my muscle "shrunk" around the bone.

Looks great
Thank you!
Thank you so much for posting your photos and sharing your experience!
I have been considering a similar procedure, but really haven't been able to find circumstances similar to mine until seeing your post.
Now I just need to find a surgeon as talented as Dr. V in the SF Bay Area!
I don't doubt you'll be able to find one! I'm sure that there are fantastic surgeons in SF! Just make sure to go with you gut. Best of luck to you :)
It's a good thing he made the incision under the chin. A surgeon made the incision inside my mouth, cut my mentalis muscle and it was deadly resulted in 12 months of drooling, lower lip not alligned and looked awful. Had to have mentalis muscle resuspension and see how deadly it is on youtube. Incision under the chin is far better.
That was my biggest concern. The scar was no big deal for me, but Dr. V was honest and told me to expect numbness up to three months and that was a dealbreaker. I'm sorry to hear about your bad experience. I hope everything was corrected in your last surgery!
It's crazy what the human mind does; you looked great before! However, you still look really great so congratulations on your journey!
When you say 'sagging' do you mean excess skin under your chin? You look fab. I've just had the same procedure 3 weeks ago in London though still a bit swollen and look like i've a double chin! Only 23.

This was the best decision I could've made for...

This was the best decision I could've made for myself. Ever since I was younger I was constantly made fun of for having a "witch chin" and for the longest time my chin was the main cause of a bunch of insecurity and self loathing. After taking a long look in the mirror and doing research on RealSelf, I decided on Dr. Vitenas to perform my reduction. It took me about a month from booking my consultation to having the procedure done. I'm so glad that the office was accommodating and expedited the surgery. Dr. Vitenas is an artist! From the beginning he told me exactly what to expect with the procedure and made sure I was realistic about my expectations. He showed me what the end result could look like and ended up doing a better job than projected. He went underneath my chin as opposed through my lip and I could not have been happier (although he gave me the option for both). He estimated he would burr the bone down 4mm, but once he was performing the procedure decided 9mm would give me the result I desired. His staff is professional, upbeat, knowledgable and overall added to my experience. The anesthesiologist was top notch as well. The surgery was painless and took a little over an hour. I kept a compression bandage on for a week and then a bandage over the incision for another week. My chin was swollen for a good couple months, but within a week of the procedure I could see what a great improvement it was. I experienced very little pain and was off of medication by the fourth day. I received a 5% cash discount to the $6,610. I know that it was a bit more pricy than normal reductions, but I am a firm believer you get what you pay for and I got the best of the best. I wanted to share my story because real self led me to Dr. Vitenas and his artistry and skill has changed my life. I no longer hate what I see in the mirror and I have blossomed into a much more confident woman over the past few months. I would recommend him and this procedure to anyone who wants to take charge of their life. I'm so glad I did.

You looked great before. Looking at your before photo I saw nothing that needed to be improved. Seeing the after though it really softened your already pretty face! You look beautiful!
Thank you so much! I am so happy with the result! :)
You look great! and thank you so much for doing this review because I want a chin reduction so bad and there's hardly any info about it when compared to chin augmentation. How did you find your doctor specifically? Did you have to get referred by a dentist ?
Honestly, I found Dr. V on here and went for a consultation for something else. I mentioned my chin and he said he could help so I went with my gut. I had a great feeling and he did a great job. I probably should've gone on a couple consultations, but Dr. V felt right. And no, I did not have a dentist referral.
I guess the problem was the "profile view" and I can see the change from the profile. From the "front view" it looked attractIve even before. I think pointed chins are very feminine and attractive.
My chin bone was reduced, now I have an empty pocket under my chin bone which feels horrible. The excess soft tissues have dimpled because loss of structure. Also thecehin now dips down and I have a witch chin. I will need a chin implant to resolve this looseness of soft tissues etc. How many millimeters was your chin reduced?
I'm so sorry to hear that you did not have a good experience. How long before you notice the sagging of the soft tissue? I am only a few months out from my surgery, but everything is lying taught on my face. I had 9mm burred down submentally.
I didnt feel like the first year even. Then about the second year, the bottom of my chin dips down and bends when I smile and I can constant feel the empty pocket under my chin bone., a empty space below chin bone. Daily discomfort. So a reconstructive surgeon is going to help me., it will take some sort of implant to fill the empty pocket and get rid of the loose feeling under my chin bone.
could you not get the soft tissues resuspended? its called chin ptosis.
To address or reduce the soft tissues under the chin would mean that the chin will be shorter.Think I've seen a couple of doctors to this procedure on youtube, looks complicated. No many doctors do it.Not sure if it was Yaremchuck or B.Eppley who does. But definitely shorter chin.
I want to get this done, but I only have 6 days of vacay so far at my new job & I don't want to wait until I have more days earned, as I am desperate & would prefer to get it done when it's cold out & there are less people out. I don't want to go back to work w/a bandage on my chin. Plus, I don't know if I should go see a Plastic Surgeon or Maxillofacial Surgeon. Maybe I will explore both. Thx for your post. IT REALLY IS HARD TO FIND CHIN REDUCTION POSTS/RESULTS!!
I had my bandage taken off at day 5 instead of 7 because I did need to go to work too. I went in with a small bandaid on the scar and lots of swelling. I had a few questions asked, but I was able to dodge them for the most part. Go with you gut and make sure you're 110% confident in your surgeon. Best of luck to you!
