Day of Surgery 11/20/2014
My surgery was on a Thursday, so I recovered Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. In all I was down and out for 5 days.
My appointment ended up being scheduled for 12:00, I was hoping for an earlier time, but oh well. We arrived to the Surgery Center where I had chosen for my surgery (I felt better about my procedure being at a surgical facility vs. in office surgery - you can choose either one) and paid the $1000 or so I believe it was to the receptionist while I waited to be called downstairs. I expected to wait a while before it was time for me to go down but it was maybe 15 mins before they called me down.
I met a nurse downstairs who began prepping me in a little room. She took a little blood, took my blood pressure, hooked me up to an IV, put this special compression legging thing on both my calves to help circulate blood during surgery which helps to prevent blood clots from forming then put this special blanket over me and hooked it up to this hose that blew warm air into the blanket to keep me warm. Shortly after, Dr. Ciaravino came in to make his markings and confirm our goal during surgery. My husband was able to come down and wait with me until I was taken into the surgery room. Once the anesthesiologist came in, he gave me a little shot of "wonderful" into my IV which helped to calm me... lol it was like drinking 2 margaritas, I was feeling good! ahaha. My husband wished me luck and went back upstairs to the waiting area until I was out of recovery.
As they wheeled me into the operating room, they scooted me over to the operating table and by the time I laid my head back on the table and looked up to the ceiling I WAS OUT!!! The next time I woke up, I was in the recovery room where they woke me and took my blood pressure again and began to remove my IV etc. I was in pain, but it wasn't tremendous. It was more of a muscle soreness. I was fortunate not to have any nausea.
After they helped me get my clothes back on I was wheeled out to my husbands car, and on the ride home I was in and out of sleep.
As soon as I got home I took my muscle relaxer and the pain medication and went to sleep on my couch.
The most painful part of the first 3 weeks or so is using your muscles to get up from sitting or laying down. (don't lay down flat, prop yourself up with pillows)
My husband had to practically lift me off the couch while I put my full weight into him so I wouldn't flex my chest muscles. He also had to help me sit on the toilet and help pull my pants down/up... lol. And be warned, all the medication and water that you consume will have you getting up to pee very often!!!!
I experienced a lot of bloating in my stomach from the anesthesia and medications that made me look 4 months pregnant... don't worry it goes away once you stop taking all the medication.
I would compare the breast pain to the pain a mother gets when her breasts are FULL of milk... just soreness, tightness.
Speaking of soreness and tightness do not scratch/itch your breasts... itching means the skin is stretching so put on as much moisturizer or body oil as you can to prevent stretch marks from forming.
Taking showers and trying not to get the sutures/bandage wet was a challenge but I did my best.
My mom had to help me wash my hair because I couldn't raise my arms up over my head so you may need help as well.
I believe after 2-3 weeks you can take the bandage off and start using the ScarFade Scar Gel that Dr. Ciaravino gives you to help the incision begin to fade and smooth the texture. I rub my ScarFade gel onto my incision after every shower and my incisions are looking great. They're smooth and slowly fading.
The first month or so, I could only sleep on my back which sucked for me because I'm a stomach sleeper. But here I am 3 months later and I can sleep whichever way I want without pain.
I sleep in an under armor zip up sports bra every night to help keep the shape of my breasts looking good.
Though your breasts will be very tender and sensitive, once Dr. Ciaravino gives you the green light, begin massaging your breasts!
I was worried about what my breasts were going to end up looking like because I had a significant size difference in each breast, and my areola are not quite the same size or level with each other. I was really worried about super lop sided looking breasts. There is some difference in symmetry still, but my breasts look WAY WAY better now than they did before surgery.
I had realistic expectations in my results, I knew to expect my breasts to be a little un-even because I can't change my breast that much without doing extensive surgery like removing the areola and placing them so that they're perfectly aligned... I was not about to do all that, it's not necessary in my opinion.
All in all I am very happy with my results, and I would definitely recommend using Dr. Ciaravino for breast augmentation.
