My history: In the past 4 or 5 years I have done a lot to take care of my skin. I recommend to others to start as young as possible, as preventive treatments are now very attainable and costs are coming down. Start even in your 20's and 30's since you can now really control how you age.

I have done as much as I could afford, including sun screen, a lot of IPL photo-facial (literally dozens to my face, neck, decollete area, and some also for my hands and forearms, about a dozen micro needling sessions, one deep laser peel, and laser capillary treatment around the nose, about a dozen Radio frequency skin tightening sessions, a vampire face lift which included one tube of Juvederm, but I hated the placement of the Juvederm. The Vampire face lift was very good, especially for brightening grayish areas around my eyes that I didn't even realize were there. I will continue forever with full face IPL and vein/capillary treatments around my nose, as I still have some redness in my chin and nose areas.

Why I decided to do Ulthera: Now that I am in my 50's I am noticing significant loss of volume. I thought before that at least if my skin looked nice that I would age gracefully, but now I am very unhappy with the sagging skin and jowls. Fillers are probably what I need to do now, but the tighter my skin is, the less filler I will need to plump it up. Also, I would like to see if I can avoid artificial fillers entirely. I am very interested in micro fat grafting to my face. I have seen some really gorgeous results in my online searches.

So, here are my Before pictures in bright light and no makeup. I really hate to see my flaws up close like this, but... fingers crossed that I will have good results. If it works well, I will think about doing it again in 6 months, before my next birthday.

My experience: I took 800 mg Ibuprofen one hour before the procedure and 2 extra strength Tylenol 30 minutes before. It still hurt a lot, so I took the one Zanax that I filled in advance. The first half of the session was excruciating, but the 2nd half was much better with Zanax. I recommend that you bring a driver and take all the pain relief possible before hand. My technician told me that she has seen some clients cry, scream, and one even vomited but probably because she took meds on an empty stomach. Anyway, it hurts. Take all the pain relief that you can, with a bit of food...

I followed up the Ultherapy with my first Botox session. I had 40 units. This was not included in the cost of Ultherapy listed above. I am anxious to see what improvement I have. I do realize that I won't know how much improvement I get from Ulthera until the botox wears off, but I will definitely be able to see the results in my lower face, jowls, and neck.

Thanks Lamby! Are you happy with your results? I see that we are both obsessed with our skin. I wish that I had started when I was your age! =)

I read that the 2nd treatment can give you even better results, but if you didn't like the first treatment then I bet you won't be happy with a 2nd. Vampire face lift was good for me. It didn't do much to restore volume (I did notice some improvement, but maybe 5%?) which I had hoped for, but it was awesome for restoring healthy circulation evidenced by lessening of brown circles under my eyes, and and brightening up areas that I didn't even realize had a grey-ish under tone.

I am so sorry to hear it did not give you good results. I have heard mixed reviews for the procedure - seems it helps some and a waste for others. I do know it firms, so if your face has fullness you like, it may cause that to lessen. For me, I had skin that was losing elasticity. I bruised horrible on my neck and under chin, but I do have nice results after 5 months. It has been 9 months now. I am considering another treatment, but also know I have loose neck skin (not the jawline) that only a lift will likely take care of. Looking into that too, LOL! we cant stand to lose our sexy! I am 58 and still feel like a kid, so why should I look like granny?

I'm with you! I want to look as good as I can, for as long as I can. Thankfully we now have more affordable and less invasive options!

Amber, You don't have any pictures posted, so I can't comment on the changes to your face, but your comments do convey a lot of anxiety, fear, and frustration. I think that you should halt treatments and give yourself and your face some time to heal. You won't see your final results for some time anyway, and it would be good get your mind off of it for awhile. We can easily become obsessed with our efforts to remove or minimize our imperfections. Sometimes it's best to take a break from the magnifying glass.

Out of all the procedures you've had done, microneedling, deep laser peel, photo facials etc., which did you see the most improvement in your skin? I'm doing my research! I can't wait to see your final results from the ultherapy! Thanks!

Photo facials are the best. They zap out all the brownish spots and leave my skin very clear and healthy looking. They work on red discoloration, but red takes longer to remove. It's been about a year since my last one, but ideally I want to do them at least every 6 months to keep up with ongoing UV damage. IPL (intense pulsed light/photo facial) does nothing to restore volume though. It's probably the best first thing to do for your skin and keep it up for best results.

I think you will be amazed what the ultherapy will do for you. I had full face and neck in Dec 2014. April, I was really seeing tightness in my lower jawline and eyes opened up.i had seen a PS before that considering blepharoplasty for eye folds, but too much down time involve. ultherapy and light Botox has cured the eyelid droop and I look amazingly different. I will say this - fillers before ultherapy can dissipate, so if you choose them, do afterwards. Sculpra on other hand, works in harmony with Ultherapy because it also stimulates your own natural collagen growth to add fullness. That is what I do now and I am happy. I am 58 and didn't start any kind of these treatments until last September 2014 when I was 57 1/2

Great tip, thank you! I will look more into Sculpra. I am researching fat transfer to the face. Dr Coleman in New York is a pioneer, but Dr Mentz in Houston has great pics and is close to me. It's supposed to be good with Ultherapy, too, but I need to compare cost.

Btw, your implant pics look great! How have you healed?

healing very nicely! Have that 'morning boob' soreness, but scar lines are very good. I need to post more pics. Friday Oct 30th was 6 weeks post op.

Hey, it's never too late! We just have to work with what we have, and not pick ourselves apart at the seams. Remember that we are much more than the sum of our parts (however much time and gravity have left their mark, lol)

I am definitely my own worst critic, magnifying my pics and anguishing over imperfections if I let myself. It can be so depressing. I will continue to do all that I can afford, but in the meantime, focus on the positive and enjoy life, friends, and family.

And thanks for the encouraging words! You made my day!! =)

Day Two

Day Two: Minor swelling and bruising, but honestly, the swelling plumps up my face and isn't a bad look. It does make my jowls look boxier, though. Hopefully they will be a bit higher rather than just fuller. My face feels a bit tender but not painful.

Why would this cause you to have boxy jowels?

It's mostly temporary, due to the swelling. Once the swelling goes down, the gradual process of tightening begins.
