Finally had my surgery on Friday!

So the day of the surgery finally arrived and I was at the doctors office at 8:30 am. I ended up being the last surgical case for the day, and my vaginoplasty was done around noon. Everyone at Dr. Vitenas office was so kind and helpful. The nurses and anesthesiologist were excellent and really cared about keeping me comfortable throughout my stay there. Once I woke up from my operation, I was helped to get dressed, discharged, and brought downstairs to my vehicle. The pain at this point was minimal - I'd say maybe a 3-4/10. The doctor injected my perineal area with a long acting local anesthetic, which would help control the pain for a few days. When I got home, I was supposed to rest and take it easy...but I didn't feel too bad. I'm not used to being laid up in bed, so I was doing laundry and light housework fairly comfortably. I had to walk kind of hunched over and carrying my catheter bag, but it wasn't unbearable. I got a call that night from the nurse to check on me, which I appreciated! Like suggested, I started taking my pain medication when I got home. The nurse had warned me that as the local anesthetics wore off, I would be having pain. Being a nurse myself, I know that if you are warned something will be painful by a nurse, it will be!!
The first night, I was unable to sleep for more than an hour at a time for about 3 hours total. The catheter was uncomfortable, I kept having bladder spasms, and the pain was creeping up on me. The weekend on call nurse called me in a prescription for a medication for bladder spasms in the morning, and some Valium to help me sleep. I must say the 1st and 2nd post operative days have been tough!! The pain is pretty unbearable, even taking 2 Norco 10's every 4 hours around the clock. They only bring the pain down a little bit, then start to wear off well before I can take more. I also know they are constipating me, so I've been taking the stool softeners as well. No BM yet though. I took some photos yesterday to see this incision that's causing me so much misery!! Sorry the photos are a bit graphic and the catheter is still in. Hopefully I'll have that out in 2 more days. You can also see a small hemorrhoid that is now there after the surgery. From what I've read, that will probably go down after the swelling subsides.

I had been considering a vaginoplasty for years...

I had been considering a vaginoplasty for years after having two vaginal births, one with an episiotomy, and one that left me torn. I was always self conscious about my vaginal tone after having kids because I could tell it just wasn't the same anymore. Even though my husband thinks I'm crazy to change anything down there, I feel like it will improve the friction during sex and help with my self confidence. I went for my consultation today with Dr. Vitenas and I set my surgery date for September 25th. I can hardly wait!

My experience so far with Dr. Vitenas has been great! His office staff is helpful and kind, and his nurses are wonderful! The entire process has been smooth, from my initial consultation to my surgery on the 25th. They knew I wanted to get the surgery done within a few weeks of my consultation due to my work schedule, and were very accommodating to get me in ASAP. Everything was explained to me prior, and it's been nice to have an on call nurse available for after hours/weekend questions. I've been overall very impressed with Dr. Vitenas and his practice!!
