Gained about 70 lbs in 3 years and have not been able to lose weight since. I decided to go ahead with the Gastric sleeve even though i am a food fanatic. I love eating out and outside food about once or twice a day. I was 278 lbs and 6 foot 1 at the time of the surgery.
I went to do the surgery myself and did not even think about how life would be after. Just wanted to lose my weight.
I arrived in Tijuana and stayed at Lucerna and the next day I got up early and Dr Kelly's drive Jorge took me to get my X-rays and blood work done. Then at the time of the surgery Dr Kelly and me were crackin jokes and getting to know one another a bit better. He's a really good hearted guy and really nice. I knew I was in good hands for the surgery and knew I would be waking up so I wasn't scared going into it at all.
However when I woke up the first day was completely the most painful experience I felt since a while. I guess everyone reacts to pain differently it's just I haven't experienced this type of pain in my stomach before even though I got my whole left arm covered in tattoos this pain was worse.
The nurses were nice the only problem was that I did not speak or understand spanish at all and only the day time one understood and spoke English so things were tough on the communication end. They told me the pain will decrease gradually throughout the days.
So the next day I felt better I was still staying at the hospital. There was still some pain but not as bad as before. I am not a back sleeper so I tried to sleep on my sides this day and it helped a lot. Walking also helps with the pain and nausea. I started to sip on water the first sip I took was a little too much and my stomach felt messed up. I then knew a sip meant like a super small sip not a full sip. This was weird for me. However my stomach was making noises but I did not crave any food like I once used too. This was weird. I know I am going to miss chewing on food and eating my favorite foods...but the plus side is I will lose weight and save money on food.
The third day is the day I am writing this review. I went to do the leak test after I woke up and took a shower they removed the IV. The leak test was absolutely disgusting. It's like stronger then a shot of alcohol as in the taste. Dr kelly showed me how small my stomach was and boy was it really small. We took some pictures together and I again thanked him and they dropped me off to the hotel. Now I am back to the hotel oh yea I am about 268 lbs already!!! So I am down about 10 lbs in a matter of like 3-4 days. I am getting some pain and gas in my stomach here and there but they give you some pills to take. Dr Kelly said he will check on me later and I am sure he will before I head back home.
He had told me my stomach was huge before and I hd a huge appetite...which is true. I am kind of excited for the journey of reaching my goal weight of 190-200 lbs but also scared at the same time and worry that I won't be able to eat my favorite foods for a long time. But the good thing is Dr Kelly said after 4-6 months I mjgbt be able to eat my fav foods again just in really small portions and not the way I used to. Which I am fine with I just worry about not being able to taste the richness of food as I used too lol.
One more thing I haven't had a bowel movement since Saturday night so I am kind of worried. I took a stool softener just incase however no luck so far. I guess it's because he removed 90% of my stomach and also I haven't ate anything since days.
I will update you guys on my progress after a week!
