Horrific Scarring After Lip Lift

UPDATED FROM Makebeautiful

8 months post op

The redness is gone. The scar is less visible but definitely still noticeable. When I wear makeup it looks better but I’m sure people wonder what happened to my face. Nobody has asked about it but I’m sure they see it and don’t want to be rude. With the pandemic it’s nice because I get to hide behind a mask. I have to accept living with an ugly scar for the rest of my life. I’m still undecided if it’s worth it because otherwise, I like having an upper lip for the first time in my life (although I wish a little more was taken off). The slight asymmetry is still there. I guess a noticeable scar is the trade off for having a normal shaped lip that most people have naturally.

Hey girl. Thank you for the update! I think it healed really well but the placement of the scar could be better. Since you said you wish a little more was taken off, I recommend reaching out to Dr. Linkov or Dr. Mascaro for a revision. They will move that scar into a natural looking crease that curves with your nostrils. Xoxo
That’s one thing that bothers me. The incision is in a different location than other surgeons. The top surgeons place is under the nostrils. My surgeon did a straight line which makes it even more obvious. I hate the thought of getting a revision and have to go through the healing process again. That and I ran out of money.
Girl I feel you.... I am right there with you considering a revision, except my philtrum is between 9-10mm... you are in good shape compared to me. The thought of going through the process again is terrifying but it is also the best time because of masks. I think the recovery really depends on the surgeon too... It doesn’t seem to be as intense with Linkov and Mascaro. Mascaro is cheaper and he is booked out super far. His virtual consults are free... maybe just schedule a consult and save your pennies in the meantime??? See what he has to say?? The good news is that your scar isn’t deforming so you can afford to wait. Your lip looks good too. Please share your surgeon if possible. I’m just curious! Xoxo
I have the exact same scar/incision placement with a lip lift performed in July 2020. I am having it revised by Gary Linkov in October 2020. Please PM for deets.
Forgot to ask, who was your surgeon?
More than the incision the placement seems to be the issue, maybe get a consult with Dr Mascaro? Maybe he gives options other than surgery

Horrific Scarring After Lip Lift

I got my lip lift one month ago. I had no upper lift. It was a straight line with no upturn. My worst fear was a noticeable scar that couldn’t be covered up with make up. I am living that nightmare now. Based on all the reviews and expert advice from surgeons, I thought there would be redness along the scar line that could be covered up. I thought the scar would be hidden under the nose. I was wrong. There is a deep cut where the edges never came together. Makeup just settles there and makes it even more noticeable. I’m glad I got this procedure done before starting a new job or else everybody would have known that I got something done. Now it either looks like I got in some sort of accident or a surgical scar. I am so embarrassed and always have my head low so people can’t focus on the scar. I’m not sure if I regret it yet. I hated my non existent upper lip and I actually love the lift. The scar is brutal. I traded one insecurity for another. The length is now 12-13mm.

hi! I had a lip lit surgery 16 days ago and my incision site is red and has bumps. it's visible. I think mine, like yours, will fade over time. we have a similar skin tone. you're lip lift looks GREAT! I think it's still early on in the recovery process and healing will take place. it WILL fade! you're very pretty and the new shape of your lip and shorter philtrum make you even prettier. I'm sure your scar will improve over time!
Thank you so much! I really hope this is just early in the healing process and that it will fade over time. However, I'm worried it wont fade because there is a deep cut where it seems like the edges never fully came together. I think I am prone to scarring. As you can see, my rhinoplasty scar is extremely visible too. I hope you have a smooth recovery.
i hope you heal smoothly too! i'm seeing my doctor tomorrow so i will ask him about the next steps in regards to the incision turning into a scar and what to do to help the process. i had rhinoplasty surgery 20 years ago and the incision site was a little zig zag and over time it faded to where you could barely see it and could definitely not see any shape to it. i have redness underneath the incision right now too, but i'm only 16 days out so i'm doing my best to be patient. i'm here for you !!!
My rhinoplasty scar is noticeable but because it is not in an obvious location, I dont care. You can see it from some of the photos I posted. My first 2 rhinoplasty scars healed well but I guess by the third, my skin just had enough. Good luck with healing!
ok - yes, i see it now that i'm looking! i would say that your lip lift scar will heal and fade much like your rhinoplasty scar. i now that's in a more concealed location (i have one too), but it's so faint. wishing you all the best! your lips look great.
It takes about 6 months the see what the scar is going to look like. If you’re only a month out , that’s not a scar, just the incision . If you do scar badly there are so many treatment to help it . I wouldn’t worry too much about it right now . I’m 4 months out and my incision is still healing . No scar yet. I’m not sure why, maybe because this area is so vascular and losts of movement but this surgery takes forever to heal . Stay positive .
Thank you. I will try to be patient. There is a lot of scar tissue that I have been massaging. It is extremely itchy underneath the skin. I know healing is still underway.
Your lift looks so good! I had mine 6 weeks ago and I saw the incision start to look better around the 5th week. Maybe try to give it a little more time. There is a great scar gel called Biocorneum you can use twice a day. There are also steroid shots and laser treatments you can look into. I also was struggling to cover the scar with makeup, but came up with a method that finally worked. I use a solid cream foundation and with the thinnest, tiniest lipstick brush, fill the indent of the incision ( on top of scar gel). I just fill it with the tiny lipstick brush. Then I take another tiny brush ( for eyeshadow) and blend the foundation in on both sides of the incision, but not in the incision. I then use translucent loose powder over the area. I sometimes add another layer to the incision line and repeat all steps. I thought you might want to try it, since I really understand what you’re going through. I really saw a change week five or six...so keep the faith:)
Thank you for the makeup tips. I will try them. Less is more when it comes to covering up a scar. I do need to get some scar gel. Im not sure if they actually work but it is better than nothing.
try MEPITAC silicone tape (available on amazon) and massaging your scar when your doctor gives you clearance to do so.
