hi, you look very nice!! I checked that Porcelian serum has 2% Hydroquinone not 4%. Also, you are supposed to take a break from hydroquinone every 3 months. So, try to stick to that this time. Think your results with Obagi may have reversed because you didn't use it in 3 months cycles. That way you can use it for long term. But, I am aware that many women on this forum got rid of their melasma for good and didn't have to maintain with anything apart from a good sunblock. So, do try natural creams in between. Think Vitamin C and Retin A combination is good for maintenance. All the best.

thanks, yes its to be used in 3month cycles. I think it has 4% but I don't know. it does have glycolic acid and kojic acid so the combo worked great, thanks

Hi, you look very good ! Im using a serum with kojic acud as well.how did your spots lighten ? By peeling or dissolving ? Did you have any redness during the process ? Thanks !

Hi Mandy you are right. I have been doing strict sun avoidance with hat and sunscreen and I avoid being in the sun as much as possible. It stills looks good. I only go back to the products every few months for about 6weeks at a time if needed. I have gotten good results but then again my melasma is mixed but mostly supervisual. Hope you are doing well

Hi Mandy, sorry, stupid question, take a break every 3 months, meaning using it everyday for 3 months then take a break for how long? Appreciate your respond. Thank you

HI Maria, can you please tell me what kind of melasma do you have? is it dermal or epidermal?
July 18, 2017
Its mixed.. I still have very light tan spots but they are barely noticeable. My daughter says she can't see them but you know that when you have melasma that's all you see in the mirror.

hi, how are your results now? what type of melasma do you have? is it dermal or superficial? it seems like most creams work for you.,,so possibly superficial melasma?
July 18, 2017
My melasma is mixed. I have been doing strict sun avoidance with hat and sunscreen and I avoid being in the sun as much as possible. My skin looks really good. Right now my melasma is very minimal and I use the products every few months for about 6 weeks then I stop but only if I start getting darkening... I haven't had a relapse. Just remember there is no cure so sun avoidance and not being rough with your skin is key. Good luck and let me know if it works for you.... ;-)

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us. I just bought the serum and the soap that you've recommended. I will start using it and keep you posted it. take care!

With respect, you analysis and research is inaccurate. Firstly, the products can be purchased on EBay, Etsy (where I purchased mine) and, Amazon. I purchased my products from eBay and Etsy and did see some of the products on Amazon. Contrary, to your alleged, superior knowledge of English, grammar and pronunciation... Physical sunscreen is perfectly understandable, if one is educated, even to a basic level. Chemical suncreen/block and physical sunscreen are, in my opinion completely understandable to anyone with an ounce of intelligence. Physical sunblock/screen = zinc oxide and titanium dioxide.

"Physical sunscreens protect your skin from the sun by deflecting or blocking the sun's rays"...

Chemical sunscreen/block = Octylcrylene
Avobenzone
Octinoxate
Octisalate
Oxybenzone
Homosalate
Helioplex
4-MBC
Mexoryl SX and XL
Tinosorb S and M
Uvinul T 150
Uvinul A Plus

"Chemical sunscreens work by absorbing the sun's rays. Some chemical filters can scatter sun rays, but still mostly just absorb them."

In addition, anyone battling this CHRONIC skin condition will have exhausted every treatment on the market and has with intelligence found themselves here...RS, to learn and explore new treatments. To suggest that we're all less than smart...gullible fools, perhaps speaks more, to your own starting point! Many, many of us here know that melasma is a condition that is manageable, at best. Many know that prevention is the order of the day, if the melasma is to be kept at bay. SPF. Physical sunblock...must become a part of everyday life for anyone suffering from Melasma. I use both. Chemical under my make up, physical over it.

I am currently using 3 of the products in Maria7870’s regime:- retin a, kojic soap and the Porcelain, purchased on 26 April 2016. I've been using it for almost 3 weeks and the results have been astounding... Porcelain is working for me and did so with 9 days. Its efficacy, is from my experience, in line with many of the reviews I read. That is to say, The product is producing the desired results. I am wearing less make up and the improvement in the melasma is stark. It's reduced the darkeness on both sides of my cheeks by 75%. My skin is returning to the skin it was before pregnancy 8 years ago. I have done my research and I'm one smart woman... I know what is right for me and my skin. Many women and men do...

Imocmua, I believe you are here disrupt and bring negativity. It's unwarranted and uncalled for.

'Maria7870’, thank you. Had I not read your initial post, I would still be 'firefighting' my melasma. I feel really, hopeful and happy to see my melasma diminish day by day in such a short space of time. Yesterday, I felt like crying when I looked at my skin, it feels so good to see the real me that was hidden under the melasma.
May 24, 2016
Imocmua. I visited a consultant dermatologist after the birth of my first child, here in the UK! He prescribed a steroid and at no stage did he mention the word 'melasma' or sunscreen/sunblock. The voyage of discovery has been a very expensive and long one... Right now...I feel like Porcelain has significantly contributed to my melasma disappearing from my face.
May 24, 2016
And, no! I wasn't paid to say that...it's my truth.

I'm so glad its working for you. I was so depressed because of my skin but now I'm sooo much better. I still see a little darkness but it about 85% gone. just remember do it in 3 or 4 month increments then stop for a while...not good to do it for very long periods.

hi, can you please comment what type of melasma do you have? is it dermal or epidermal?
May 24, 2016
I understand the way you felt about the melasma. It's not something you can hide from because it's there on your face. Every time you look in the mirror- it's there. I hated looking at my face.

I will heed your advice. The regime is very harsh on the skin and I think I'm going to give this regime 6 weeks and take a break from July to September and then reassess.

The porcelain has been the instrumental in this process and I cannot thank you enough for sharing your journey.

i'e read that powder is worse for melasma?
February 24, 2017
I'm going to try some things I just read about by Liz Wolf, Primal Palate. I asked the derm pointblank before I had IPL if the intense light wouldn't make it worse. He lied and it did.

I used kojie soap 3x per day left the suds on for a few minutes then rinse, I used plain sugar and facial cleanser scrubbing gently every 2 days at night followed by toning with apple cider vinegar. the retin and porcelain serum every night only on the affected areas. used a hat and physical sunblock when going out. no chemical sunblocks theyre not good. you will sting get red and peel like crazy but its worth it. if you take birth control pills I recommend not taking them, they make melasma worst. if you dont see results within 3 weeks you may need skin occlusion of affected area which means covering it with plastic wrap after putting the retin a and porcelain serum on so that it can penetrate better. look up the definition of skin oclussion to get more info. thanks

Some one made a great point when using porcelain you should use sun block not sun screen there is a huge difference. I seem to still get burnt when I use sunscreen especially when I use any kind of bleaching cream. They seem to work and then like a walk to my car in a sunny parking lot and I'm back to worst than I was before. The sun block looks a little crazy however I think it protects much better. You can wash it off at work and then reapply before you go out.

Hi , what did you try for your melasma so far? Did you get much success?
April 10, 2016
Hi Mandy, I even had a Cosmelan peel, but my Melasma on my cheek did not go off completely , I was so disappointed , so through reading I came across about ZEMED correcting serum with 2% hydroquinone , I makes it Cosmelan 2 and it faded quite a lot and my complexion is so much fairer and even, I used the correcting serum with retinol cream as well, but after reading your article I thought I give it a try on the porcelain whitening cream , it might clear off the light patch I have left, Thank you,Once again for sharing,Love Bee Hune

hey that's great that you have seen some success. I also feel that eventually I will be able to even up my skin too..Just that being an indian asian, it's bit more difficult for me. But I am trying both internal n external therapies now..Going back to my high strength cream again after a gap of 1.5 months. I realised that while I was using it I couldn't see any fading due to redness n peeling but after my skin fully recovered the pigment on my cheeks was much lighter. Other good news is that in the last 1.5 months, the pigment stayed the same. Now, I am planning another six weeks on the cream and hopefully will see more fading. I want my upper lip pigment to fade more actually, but it's much better now. Even if I get 50% more fading, I think I can easily cover with little foundation and not feel so self conscious. I am also using ayurveda treatment to cure it internally. That will end it May too. So, hoping both combined will give me decent results. I will write full review on my experience in May now as I would like others to benefit. It's very therapeutic because we women attach so much self worth to our looks that a skin condition can really have a devastating effect on us. So, if someone can learn from my experience It will contribute to my healing. Will catch up in six weeks now. Thanks

hey did you have diagnosis for your melasma? is it dermal or superficial?
April 11, 2016
I Mandy, had it for years, until I went to have some fillers done than the doctor told me, but I am happy that we all look better than yesterday and try not to be stress by it and continue the treatment , and for sunscreen I used La Roche Posay and Shishedo, they are waterproof and it goes well with make up, there are a lot of sunscreen out there, the Japanese and Koreans makes the best sunscreen , being fair is their first priority , and the price is reasonable and looks great with makeup, Always remember you are beautiful from the inside and out, no matter what , Much love n light,Bee Hune
