After LOTS of research, consulting with various skin care professionals, and getting the guts to go for it, I finally decided to try a facial peel. After discussing it with my aesthetician and a rep for a certain peel company, I decided to go for a 30% glycolic peel. (They recommended a 40% as I am used to using light AHAs and very mild peels via Ole Hendriksen- Lemon strip flash peel).... I figured Id rather under peel and take longer to see results than to melt my face off. lol. I purchased a 30% Glyco peel liquid through Ebay (sketchy, I know), and waited until March 12 to begin my peels, starting with only 1 minute of active peel time.
Prep: discontinue all products containing AHA, acne meds, no heavy manual exfoliation.
Primed skin with Effaclar gel face wash, alcohol swipe to dry.
Applied peel solution with cotton pad, timed 1 min, neutralized with baking soda solution, rinsed super well with lots of water (just to be safe), and applied Mario Badescu Ginseng Moist Cream, followed by Mario Badescu Rose Hydrating Mist. Continued this for 4 days post peel.

Repeated process 1 week later, left solution on for 2 minutes this time.... some minor redness and slight swelling just above naso-labial folds, but nothing too severe. Applied a small amount of neosporin to these areas the day of peel, then continued coconut oil after (on the inflammed area only) to help heal and prevent infection. Has not resulted in any brown patches or scabbing/cracking, etc as of today. Other than the slight irritation the rest of my face looks great!

The photos I am posting are all taken the day after the peel (except the "before", obviously,) so you can see how calm my skin looks about 12 hours post peel.

I plan to continue the peels on a weekly basis for 6 weeks, then give my skin a 2-4 week break as recommended through the company.

I have already noticed a decrease in acne, lightening of hyperpigmentation, softening of fine lines (forehead, between brown, nasolabial folds, and on temples near eyes), and more refined pores.

Great :) What was the peeling like, in terms of your skin peeling whilst recovering ? Could you go outside in public comfortably ?
I only had very minor flaking, mainly around recovering acne spots (as they dried up and healed.) I avoided the sun as much possible, being sure to use my mineral makeup w spf in it. I loathe actual sunscreen- it always stings my skin and breaks me out. I was not obviously recovering from a peel, so i was comfortable in public. No major redness or anything like that. I did bring my face spritz everywhere though to combat any tightness or dryness. (Either aubrey glacier complexion mist or mario badescu rose and herb mist.)
What brand did u use for your peel?
A Glycolic peel (even 70%) will not make your skin peel properly - only a TCA peel will do this. I had a 35% TCA after using Glycolic 70% every week for a couple of years. The results from the TCA are amazing the Glycolic helps keep spots at bay and brightens the skin.
Wat is tca peel and wher to get it i want to remove scarring and am about to buy 30 or 40% glycolic peel kit to help me

Hi,

The TCA Peel is a skin resurfacing technique. It's been found to help with sun damage, wrinkles and other skin problems.

You can find out more here. Feel free to ask more questions.

There are actual medical studies published - comparing the results of skin (sun damage, discoloration, pores, texture, etc.) with people using glycolic acid 30% vs people using TCA peels (15%) and the results were IDENTICAL - except that those using TCA had to deal with crepey, peely skin for a week vs the glycolic did not. Just so you know! You can look it up. It's good to know because I've done both - and unless you are doing a really deep TCA (18% -30%)
Oh and even if you say it doesn't make your skin "peel properly" - no you won't see the skin flaking right off but it is still peeling, breaking down the tissue and creating collagen.
..first comment was cut off..i meant unless you are open to doing a deeper TCA, doing glycolic peels at first can give tremendous results.
I see a huge improvement.. I'm doing the same due to a huge hormonal outbreak.
Any updates? I just did my first 30% glycolic peel (Bioelements brand) and plan to do it once a week for 6 weeks also.
