I would like to start out by saying this is a bit of a novel so I apologize haha.
I had been self conscious about my profile literally since I can remember. When I was 10 I had retainers to try and correct my over bite followed by braces followed by more retainers and although that made my teeth perfectly straight it never did anything to help my weak bottom jaw. Thinking back I wish jaw surgery had been offered back when I was younger but unfortunately it never was. Fast forward to 24 and I was still having issues with my overbite and had developed Bruxism (severe teeth grinding) so after seeing dentists and specialists it was suggested that I get Invisalign. I only had to wear my plates for 6 months and now only have to sleep with them which seems to have helped my grinding but again this did nothing for my profile and weak jaw. So now at 26 I finally decided to get a chin implant, something I had been considering and researching since my teens. I'm now just over 9 weeks post op and the difference it has made to my profile and overall confidence has been amazing. I do however have some advise from my experience which will hopefully help any of you who are considering this procedure :)
1. Make sure you research the difference between chin implants, sliding genioplasty and jaw surgery as each gives a very different look depending on the result you are trying to achieve.
2. Once you have decided on a chin implant choose a qualified surgeon and listen to their advise. My Surgeon Dr Peter Randle did originally recommend for my face that I get a small implant but because of the projection I wanted I opted for the medium. The thing with chin implants is they look a lot bigger once in and under your muscle than when you are just holding them in your hand.
3. After your procedure rest up and when I say rest I mean take at least a week off work and try and avoid any social outings where alcohol might be as it stops your pain and makes you be less careful and as ridiculous as it sounds avoid people making you laugh because laughing hurts A LOT
4. Get yourself a travel pillow or A frame pillow! I didn't do this and even now every morning I wake up slightly more swollen and stiff from sleeping on my chin funny.
Feel free to ask me any question you might have as i'm sure I have forgotten lots of things to tell you :)

Smile change

As requested here are some before and afters of how my smile looked and now looks from the front. I would say this has been the hardest part to get used to because I think I preferred the way I looked before when I smiled. (I think the implant makes me look older)

You look better after!! I agree that it makes you look older and much more elegant as well!!

I don't see an age change, your face looks more proportioned with the implant. Your chin will shrink over the next several months actually and your smile will improve some more possibly over the coming month.

I think you look more rounded before and that usually has a more baby face look. The after looks more refined and very pretty. Not older in a bad way, older in a good way.

I just got a med chin implant and I'm 7 days post op. I was just panicking because seeing the reveal has made me feel like it's too big (I think I'm still pretty swollen). I think it juts out when I smile (although my smile is super strained right now). I think the new structure of your face is gorgeous and like someone else said, looks very elegant. It's made me feel better about mine. I guess it's always hard to see yourself differently, even if it's something you wanted. How long did it take the swelling to totally go down for you?

Hey sorry for the super late reply lol. How is your swelling now? Sometimes I still wake up with swelling and I am at the 3 month mark now so I think its different for everyone
